I would really be concerned about the screening process for who gets to carry, and the level of training they receive. I can see it being beneficial if done correctly, but I can also see it going wrong without the proper oversight.

Absolutely terrible idea for so many reasons. As a non-parent, I'd be terrified to send my imaginary kid into a class with a teacher that thinks that them packing heat everyday is a good idea.
In the same vein, how do people feel about airline pilots being armed?
This doesn't bother me. Teachers and pilots are not cut from the same cloth. An a pilot is going to be harder to get the gun away from than a teacher trying to handle 30 kids is.

I don't like that either (how many news stories do we hear nowadays about pilots who are drunk or who've gone off the deep end?), and I don't feel it's necessary if their doors are securely locked.
I don't have a problem with plainclothes air marshalls provided that that they've gone through very extensive background checks and training, and they are routinely re-tested.
It makes me uncomfortable, more on behalf of the teacher than anything else. I would not want to work a job where I was required to handle a gun, and I wouldn't want to be forced to be trained to use a weapon I have no interest in using.
I don't like the idea of kids being around guns, but since it seems to be a reality that guns are something to worry about in schools these days - I'd be less worried about a trained faculty member carrying one than I would be about a random gunman potentially showing up. In an ideal world, neither would happen.
I am not opposed to having armed security, in the form of trained police officers or others who have undergone good formal training (so not a rent-a-cop but someone with extensive training). Again, this is not an "ideal world" situation but I think we need to face the fact that we don't live in an ideal world. We live in a world where people can easily access guns, legally or illegally, and we need to be prepared to deal with that fact. We can enact all the gun control laws we want, but crazy people are still going to get guns or bombs or something else that can hurt us. I think having trained professionals ready to step in and stop them from getting very far can only help, even though I 100% think it sucks that that's the world we live in.
beyond horrible idea. I saw a sign that said "if a child throws a rock at another child, the answer isn't to give every child a rock." very well stated.
I actually think my HS had a "safety resource officer," an off-duty police officer, and I think he carried a gun? I can't remember, but he definitely wore a county police officer uniform.
We had an SRO. I can't remember but I think so. I remember the DARE offficers in elementary school did.
I am ok with that. Police officers carry guns as part of their job. School teachers? no.
A public high school teacher one month before the end of the school year is not a pretty sight. It's not hard to imagine a situation in which a teacher would snap and shoot a kid.

I can't imagine a worse scenario. And I'm pretty anti-homeschooling but the day my child's school has a gun put in "for protection' is the day I start homeschooling.
As a former teacher and now someone to trains future teachers, I totally disagree. It will not solve the problem. How will they be kept secure? Will they need to be locked up all the time or on their person? If they are not locked up, there is a chance of them getting in the wrong hands. Students steal from teachers all the time. What would stop them from doing this? If it is always on their body, I just feel that it would be too intimidating. I don't want to lean over to help a student do a multiplication problem and have a gun between us.

I would homeschool before I would send my kids to schools where the admins were carrying. Please don't make me homeschool. I would run screaming from the house by the middle of day three.
