As much as it sucks I'm thinking you didn't initiate the project with that intent or it wasn't your decision? (because that wouldn't be mine either, that would have come from above me)
So just try to focus on managing/completing the project and not think about that part of the outcome. I know it's hard, but it's one of those things where you can't change it or stop it so you kind of need to push it aside. I hope they do the right thing for her and give her lots of notice, but again - that's probably not up to you.
As for the other coworker - do you have your timeline and reasons for those milestones/dates? I would tell him the project plan has been carefully reviewed and approved and unless he gives you a really good reason to reconsider those dates, you are NOT going to discuss this. Repeat. If you have to tell him "I know you have an opinion, however this is not your project and I need you to leave me alone about the timelines so I can focus on getting this done." or have your boss tell him to back off. He's being unprofessional imo.
maybe he needs to be laid off since clearly he has nothing to do all day if he's worrying about other people's proejcts. (try to keep that one in your head)

Does speed up the project guy know that this will result in the other CW being laid off?
I agree with random that if this is your project, then HE is the one being unprofessional by hounding you over the timeline of it. Have you asked him why he feels so strongly that the project be moved up?
Do you know she will be laid off. Any chance they will move to her doing something else within the company?
I'm pretty sure she will be laid off. There was another woman that worked with her and did the same job. She caught wind of this project (not from me), and transitioned into another role in her department. I don't think there are any other openings for the woman that is left.
This part has nothing to do with me though. Her boss will make the final decision.

Yes, he knows that the other CW will be laid off. I haven't asked him why he feels so strongly about this project. I'm having a hard time hiding my dislike of him, so I try not to engage in any extra conversation. I do know that he used to work on the team that the other CW is on. So maybe they have past history? Who knows, I'm grasping at straws though.
