I would suggest a 1TB. I typically do two backups. I burn to DVDs and keep them in a Safety Deposit box and back up to a hard drive. Hard Drives can go out over time.

My coworker and I were discussing this yesterday. Get the 1TB from new egg. Don't buy maxtor (I've had 3 fail in 6 years). Seagate is very reliable. Western digital is also as we'll but I prefer seagate for reliability over them.
Of course price is important! But the hassle of having to get a second one to me is worth just buying as much space is possible. Looks like some people posted some decent deals.
I have a Seagate 1TB hard drive and am glad I picked that size. I do take a lot of pictures and there is still a lot of room available. I backed all of my documents from my desktop after we bought laptops and it's so convenient to have everything right there but not taking up the space on the laptop.

Tigerdirect and newegg are great sites, and newegg is having mad deals right now. There's no way I'd get any less than 1TB right now, because you can find them for <$100.
I have a 1tb Seagate...it's completely full. Definitely get at least a 1tb. As the megapixels get bigger on cameras, so are the sizes of the pics themselves. I've been shopping for a 2tb and ran across some for $80 but lucky me they sold out before I could click buy. I think if you shop around, you can get a 1tb for $50-60.
I bought almost all of my computer parts from newegg and built what should have been a $3k super computer for just $1500. www.buy.com is another awesome site for computer related stuff.

The other thing you can do is back stuff up in the cloud. I have an auto backup thing from Mozy that my H insisted on me getting. He is an IT guy so I just do what he tells me.

lol seagate is trash. I just lost my external hhd and it was a only 2 years old. There's no support. BTW, maxtor IS seagate.
