I am looking into getting a garmin, but I was immediately overwhelmed by the bazillions of choices. There are tons! I'm just looking for something straight forward, I don't need the newest one or anything. Which garmin do you have? Love it? Hate it? Wish you had upgraded? Downgraded? Thanks!

I have had the 305 and currently use the 310XT, but I would guess they have more functions than you need. I use them for running, biking, and can use the XT for swimming; they have a multisport function that I can use for triathlons, which is handy. I would guess the 110 might be a simpler one that could serve your needs, but hopefully someone who has one can chime in? Do you want one with a HR monitor?
I have the 405. I had some problems with the touch bezel last spring and got really frustrated, but it's been working ok since then. I know a lot of people have had touch bezel issues though so I'm not sure it'd be my first choice.

I just got the 410. I haven't run with it yet but I've been playing with it a lot and haven't had any issues with the touch bezel so far. Maybe they tweaked it a little from the 405 since so many people have had problems with it.

I have the 110 and I love it. All I want is something to tell me distance, pace, time, and have a HRM. It does all of that and it's easy to use. It comes with a chest strap. Actually, I think you can get it with or without the chest strap, so make sure you buy the version you want.
I have the 405. It's the only one I've owned so I can't really compare to other versions. I love tracking time, distance, and pace on one screen. The virtual training buddy is useful too. I also bought the chest strap for the HRM. I don't love the touch bezel. I also tend to have issues with it when I'm super sweaty, which naturally happens when I'm running long distances in the humidity during the summer. The 405 will just randomly switch screens or become nonresponsive. I've read on forums that this is a common issue.
I have the pink and gray 110 too but I'm too dumb to use it. I seriously took it out on the trail today excited to finally test it out (I just got it recently) and it was a complete user fail! I literally had to come home and watch the video online to see how to use it. I am normally not this dumb and this thing is very easy to use. I just had a ding dong moment.
I'm one of the few who has never had any issues with the 405. With that said, if I were to get one right now, I'd get the 610. My only complaint about the 405 is that it would be nice to have 4 display fields.

I have the 205 without the chest strap (not sure if I lost it or I need to buy it separately). It suits my needs just fine for occasional running and training. But, now that I'm getting more serious with training, I find myself relying on it SO much during my run.

I just got the 110 for Christmas and love it! I don't have experience with any others, but this has all that I need. During the run, it displays pace, distance, time elapsed and heart rate. Once you are done, you can view total time, avg pace and calories burned on the watch. When you connect to the computer, you can also see your splits, elevation change and heart rate patterns during the event.
I also use it on indoor mode with the hrm to keep track of calories burned, too.
I've only had it 2 weeks and I'm obsessed. We were not allowed to wear watches at my race yesterday and I hated not knowing exactly my splits and calories burned.

Why couldn't you use your watch at the race?
Probably a prediction run? You predict your time and the person that finishes closest to their prediction wins. Just a guess.
I have the 110 with the HRM chest strap. I like it - gives average pace, time, distance and the HRM is also easy to use. If you are a newbie to Garmins, this is the one I would recommend.
I had the 305 for years, and no complaints. But I never used anything beyond the basic features. When it died a couple months ago, I got the FR10. It's perfect for me - I love it. Very light weight. Des everything I need. No HRM, but I never used it with the 305 anyway.

OP, I have a Garmin 205. It works fine for me.
yep...it was a predicted time race. I did beat my prediction by about 2 minutes! I didn't have time to hang out for the awards, so idk how close/far I was
