So I got a groupon to a new salon that I had never been to. I made an appt and went in and got a cut and highlights. I have a lot of hair and she didn't have time to dry it and style it which I understand even though I was disappointed. I am happy with what she did and I tipped accordingly. I tipped on what the total would be before the groupon. It ended up being 30.00
All stylists are independent and rent a chair, I paid the tip with my credit card on one of those square register things that you put on your phone to accept payments. She asked if I wanted a receipt and I stupidly said no.
I look online and it shows a payment of 37.50. What do I do now? Did she change it? Do I talk to her or owner of salon? Do I drop it? Ask for it all back or my 7.50?
Her kids are in the same school as mine if that matters, althought I never see her there and it is not the same grade.

Hmm the weird amount makes me think it may have been some type of fee or tax or something... I would call the manager and ask and if there isn't a good explanation- I'd demand it back/ complain to Groupon if they won't do it.
I wanted to tip 30 and then when I checked my bank account it shows a charge to her for 37.50. She had me type In the amount myself and I wrote 30.00 I am sure.
Yeah, just call. It's probably a mistake and her not trying to mess with the tips, so yeah, call. And even if it was her messing with the tips, you shouldn't be embarrassed that she's stealing.
I am sorry i am being confusing. I bought the groupon which covered the whole service. I brought it in but it obviously doesn't cover gratuity. And it pisses me off because I thought I was being fair.

I would call. I don't think the burden of proof lies with you, which is why you have to sign.
We had a similar issue with a restaurant bill once and successfully disputed it with the credit card company. We did not have to send them our receipt.
ETA: Good point about the hold. Wait a couple days and check again.
Yes, in a service industry like a salon or restaurant, the initial swipe holds the total plus a cushion to cover the tip. The system has no way of knowing your total was the tip, so it held extra. When the transaction is batched (finalized) the correct total will show up on your account. Same thing happens in a hotel, room + tax + some predetermined amount for charges to the room, finalized for the exact amount after checkout.
This, but if the extra charge doesn't fall off after a few days. Absolutely call.
I would wait several days until the final charge comes through (not pending)...If it's still $37.50 I would maybe call and ask, or just dispute with my credit card company.
I would call..if you don't get a satisfactory response. I would call your cc company and dispute it. The business must produce proof that you said 37.50. It is tough to do for them in this situation. YOu will be refunded the 7.50 by the cc company who then takes it from the business.
It has already cleared my account for the 37.50? Are you saying the over charge will be refunded?
Yes it will. The CC machine has to poll which happens over night. When it takes the charge off it won't even show in your statement as a refund the amount charged will show as 30.00. Certain gas stations now do this as well, QT always has a hold of like 15.55 or some weird amount. It always rights itself.
