1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird?
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us?
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do?
Here are my answers:
1. One of my besties has a 70s style house they're doing a good job remodeling. She's very into Paris style stuff (lived there, studied there, worked there) and her H is all farm, hunting, camo. He is also pretty opinionated on the decor. Instead of dividing their tastes up between rooms, she's trying to incorporate it all in every room. Her cute Eiffel Tower dinnerware doesn't quite mesh with the duck hunting print in her kitchen, her pink camo bedspread in the master do nothing for the cool photos of France she had framed. Her french script throw pillows do nothing for his tractor wallpaper border in the family room..lol. It's the weirdest mishmash of stuff ever. But Hey, they're happy.
2. My old roomate lives on a lakehouse on one of Great Lakes. Instead of the typical lake house stuff she did cardinals (always been her thing) mixed with a bit of I would say is prepp/rowing team/rugby player like. It's still girly (she lives alone) but still sophisticated. Think throw pillows made of sweater materials, with a pair of oars on the wall and a subtle nature scene print with a cardinal in it and some neutral silk curtains. The whole things just works in her little Bungalow.
3. Nope. Not really. The lakehouse friend loves to decorate and rocks at it, but my house is the one that everyone says, "oohh..pretty!" (And you've all seen it, it's nothing compared to what I see on here). The rest of my friends don't decorate at all. Think newer subdivision house with builder paint colors and maybe a wedding pic on the wall. It's just not their thing and it's fine. I don't travel, run marathons, work 2 jobs for fun, watch movies either like they do.
**DISCLAIMER** I'm just looking for a fun discussion here. I'm not trying to attack anyone's friends. I just know we all have something like this to talk about.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird?
One of my friends has a piece of Target or Bed Bath and Beyond art hanging at eye level literally every 6 inches across her house. She lives in a very open ranch-style home so you basically walk into the living room and see the kitchen and bedrooms off the living room. Every single piece of wall space is covered with art. I think I only notice it because I am like, super afraid to hang stuff on the wall because I am afraid I'll be over it... as if it's a big deal if I change my mind... I wish I had her fearlessness.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us?
Not really. Most of my friends aren't into decor like I am, so everyone's style runs very traditional, nothing too edgy or exciting.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do?
Other than my BFF who lives in another state, no. We text pictures to each other all the time., but I can't really do that with anyone else.

1. My parents, lol. My dad has super modern taste, but my mom has more country/classic taste. Yep hey have a very open floor plan so it is hard to just let them each pick different rooms. My moms office is pink simply shabby chic stuff, with wicker end tables and antique quilts and stuff. My dad's office is ikea modern, to give you an idea. So their main living areas are.... Kind of a disaster.
2. My aunt has the most amazing taste. She has an amazing budget to go with it so sadly I can't ever hope to duplicate what she does.
3. Most of my friends have young kids and even if they have money, don't choose to spend it on d & r. I think most of us have the attitude of "why bother buying nice new couches, the kids will just destroy them". Or, my childless friends who have houses are concentrating on spending all extra money on travel, not houses.
1. many of my friends have cheap versions of diy or the overdone word art, even coffee themed artwork. not really "weird" as much as out of date or tacky. 2. some have style that wouldn't be at the really nice end of the stuff on here, but just a little behind what i have done (i'm no where near the talent of many of the ladies here). 3. most of my friends would like to do it as much as i do it, but they are afraid to try, want someone to do it for them. i help when asked, but don't want to presume anything. i do have one friend that likes change, so she probably does like it most closely to me.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird? Friends had a BBQ in the middle of their great room. The prior owners had enclosed the patio and added tile floors and big windows around the BBQ. They just gut-rehabbed the kitchen and great room taking out the BBQ and opening up the rooms. Lots of $$$ but it makes the house so much more functional.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us? Different friends have a Victorian and are redoing the house in a steam punk style.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do? Yes. The couple with the Victorian are crafting a lot of the pieces themselves. They have a shed on the property filled with parts for future projects.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird? I have a newer friend that hardly has decorated at all. Furniture in each room that fits the room and not much on the walls....white/cream walls....it's weird and sterile. Her DS's nursery is adorable so I don't get the rest of the house.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us? Eh, not really. My MIL has great taste and $$$ so she can buy whatever she likes. She mixes pattern and wood very well for a very cozy lived in home. I should PIP it sometime.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do? No, not at all. I have a friend or two that like to ask for advice, which I find flattering

1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird? No, I wish.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us? Not a close friend, but our old neighbor (a 21 year old guy) had his mom design his place and it was AWESOME. The funny story behind it is that our landlord (we were renting) was furious b/c this young guy moved in to this place and was tearing it up. These were historical rowhomes from the 1800's. Our landlord barged in and made the work crew stop everything, even though he had no claim to this place. My landlord owned a company that preserved historical places, so he felt it was his duty. Not only did the guy's mom keep the arch detail of the 1800's, she made it fun and just awesome. You should have seen my LL face when I told him how beautiful the place was and how he could get some ideas from the new guy. My LL was such a jerk.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do? No. they think I am a jerk for wanting my H to get rid of his ugly as sin, lumpy, old, faded recliner. My BFF did tell me that it really meant a lot to her that I liked her new furniture b/c she thinks I have great taste and she and my other GF were ooing and ahhing when they saw our house. It's nothing special, but I guess since I paint my furniture, etc., they think I am risky
1. I have more than one friend who has decorated mostly with hand-me-down stuff from their parents and grandparents. That's acceptable in your very first apartment when you're poor and don't have money to buy D&R stuff. Not so cool when you're 37 or 44 and could afford to buy your own furniture and wall art, etc. Most people start to replace the hand-me-downs with their own stuff eventually. My 37 year old friend has a house that looks nearly like her grandma's house did. She is way too young to live in an old lady house!
2. One friend built an awesome potting shed in her back yard. It looks like a little cottage, it's so cute. I'm not sure that really counts for this poll, but it's the first thing I thought of. It matches the country cottage look of her whole house. Is not my style, but she's done it really well.
3. Not really, other than the friend mentioned in #2. I do have one friend who is on Pinterest all the time and is always remaking thrift store stuff for her house, but she's bad at it. Nothing really turns out cute. That's so mean, I know.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird?
Not really weird. One of my friends has a terrible living room. They have re-done almost their entire house but for some reason their living room is awful still. The furniture is arranged weird...it's all broken hand me down furniture, the walls desperately need to be repainted, broken vertical blinds, blue carpet that is all stained. Then other rooms in their house are really beautiful - not my style, but like a cabin/rustic/lodgey style with lots of stone and cedar ceilings. really pretty.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us?
Nope. A lady I used to babysit for had the coolest style. They lived in a bungalow, and had no money. She did tons of cool stuff..she made a coffee table out of an old window and covered it competely with candles from the dollar store. She painted her countertops black and her cabinets white, used cheap pine boards to put in a new bathroom floor that looked beautiful. She had her kids smother canvases in a single color of paint each ( I think they were green and purple) and then hung them in the living room with little spot lights hanging above...she was someone who really inspired me to be creative and make beautiful things with no money.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do?
One of my friends does. The rest, are hopeless or don't like to. The friend who does like to decorate does a good job most of the time but she doesn't really understand scale at all and likes lots of cluttery things. So overall her house comes across as beautiful but when I sit there, I think "OMG that lamp is so dinky it needs to be double the size!" or " why is that shelf full of random stuff all lined up? where are the groups of 3s, where is the tall and short mix?" I am hyper critical in my head sometimes because I am so interested and obsessed with rooms. honestly she has a really beautiful house, I'd just do some things differently.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird? Yes, I have a friend who's house is set up on 3 levels and it's really strange. They've ended up mostly living on the middle floor and the living room is also the bedroom and it's all just pretty nuts and very hippy.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us? My SIL does a GREAT kids room. All her kid's rooms over the years have been adorable and whimsical. She sews and does a lot with layering, cute curtains, just lots of details and good mix of colors. It comes across very warm and happy.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do? No one. Most friends don't seem to really notice or care about their surroundings. I have one friend that is very busy right now, but I think if she had time and money she would take some more interest in it.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird?
DH's old boss lives in a round cedar home in the middle of the woods. There's a huge fire pit in the middle and all the rooms radiate off of it.
My old house had been a farm out building in a former life. The previous owners were pretty quirky- one was a scoutmaster who initialed every improvement he made including the 6 toilets and 2 showers in the garage. The ones after him belonged to a motorcycle gang.
One of my friends has a kitchen with real 60's style cabinets. She's replaced the countertops with granite and installed a glass tile backsplash but kept the orange maple vabinets.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us?
One friend ended up living in a midcentury raised rancher twin. She hates it having had a cook Vic and a craftsman style previously. But she's embraced it and it's getting to be really fun. I made some of her window treatments.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do?
Only the one with the curtains. The rest of my friends are pretty boring.
My mother loves to decorate. She's an artist. She goes through phases and maintains two distinct vibes. Her "nicer" house in MD is very tradtional and features all manner of family pieces and nice stuff. Her winter place in FL has largely been thrift store finds and is really fun.

I can't think of anything weird. All of my friends have great taste. D&R isn't really a big thing for any of them, but they all have nicely furnished homes.
The only thing that stands out is one friend's house. It's pretty, but for some reason feels really really cold and impersonal. I don't like spending time there.
Our BFFs moved into their house a few months before us (so they have been there 7 months). In their great room they have a couch, love seat, and one end table. No throw pillows, blankets, rugs. No coffee table or rug (hard wood floors). No lamps (or overhead lighting).
I've offered to help her but I think they just can't agree on what to do. So instead of buying furniture they are finishing their basement. I just don't get it.
1. Anything your friends have going on in their house that's completely weird? One friend has a condo and she loves color but too much...she painted her walls a sage green, trim a misty blue and the doors are a farmhouse red. Her sofas are white but the walls are just too much.
2. Any of your friends have a cool style you can describe for us? No None of my friends is really into decor.
3. Do your friends like to decorate as much as you do? Not at all. I am pretty much known in my circles as the decorator and the one they all come to for input.
Bonus answer: I have one friend who it drives me crazy when I go to her home. She has absolutely no interest in decor at all. All her walls are a super light neutral beige (think painter's white), basic curtains with no flair, nothing on the walls, beige furniture... Everytime I go there I start fantasizing about what I want to do to her rooms. It would totally upset her if I said anything but I always hope she will ask for my opinion and help!
