If you leave all your personal care items out on your countertops...
Do you ever think about that guests will probably touch/use them??
All my stuff is put away in drawers or the medicine cabinet. I'd feel weird leaving out my hairspray and lotion and lipstick.....it would totally squick me out for everyone who uses my bathroom to see all the products I use, to possibly snoop and touch them and worse yet to use them.
I do keep lotion sitting out on my empty countertop next to the soap and it's totally for guests to use.
The reason I ask is because some of my friend's bathrooms look like this....
And every time I go in, I find myself lingering over their productss....browsing what they use not to be rude but because I love makeup and I am just interested. But I know if it was reversed I'd rather my friend not stand there looking/staring at all my personal stuff. But then again, don't leave it out for the world to see....
I don't know where I'm going with this...it was just on my mind tonight after visiting a friend.
That's not my actual friend's house...its just a pic I found. I just mean when people have dozens of products all stored on their countertop and they never put them away.
I agree- I would never leave anything sitting out that I was not ok with someone using. When I use bathrooms like that, I am totally tempted to peek at stuff....like if I see a pretty lipstick I might take off the lid to look at the color. I would never wear it, but I would probably peek. Or I'd smell a perfume or something.
bathrooms like that overwhelm me so I don't spend much time looking at the products. I wouldn't use anything either unless it was clearly "guest soap" or whatever.
I have a caddy with products in it near the sink and I've always assumed that it's ignored by guests. I just wouldn't think there's anything interesting or eye catching in my stash.
I'm a nosy nosy girl, so yeah, in a bathroom with stuff everywhere I usually peek at the products. I like scoping out new hair goop and lotions and stuff.
My bathroom usually has a couple of things out on the counter, usually stuff that will leak in a drawer, but nothing like that. It all fits on one little tray!
My master bath looks like that. There really isn't anywhere else to put the stuff we use daily, and there isn't money to buy shelves and baskets at the moment. Someday though, I'll be able to make it pretty!
I hate clutter, no. I have a tray with perfume bottles but that's because they are pretty! Guests don't use our bathroom anyways.
In our guest bathroom (not powder bath) I do set set out a guest toiletry basket that has contact solution, Advil, pepto, razors, tooth brushes, lotion, travel size toiletries, etc. All of that is for their use.
I keep most stuff packed away but I also have the cupboard and closet space to do so. The only thing that sits out is soap and H's lotion and contact stuff. Or if I get in a rush and forget to put my makeup away..it may sit there awhile.
My sister and friends have baths with stuff out. Not to the extreme, but enough. My sister just has no storage space, my friends like to be able to see what they got.
I don't think twice about people digging through my stuff. If you want to try my hand lotion, smell my perfume...by all means...I guess...whatever. My sister loves all my makeup-y stuff so we borrow and trade all the times anyways.

Ok - that makes me nervous. I dislike having that much clutter in a bathroom, though now that we have a master & a hall 'guest' bath, our master is starting to look like that (time to organize again).
Even when we had only 1 bath in the house, I had cabinets to put that stuff in!
As far as trying out stuff that others have - no - I don't do that unless I've specifically asked for lotion or something. I would definitely side eye a guest who used my stuff too...

I would have a stroke walking into that bathroom, lol - I hate clutter. And I put everything away, I even make MH put all his stuff away under the sink.
This is why I insisted on a house with a half bath. It's so much easier to worry about the little bathroom on the first floor being guest ready than a full bath that's used by the homeowners.
If I had that much clutter, I would definitely be putting things away before anyone came over. My counter is definitely not as organized as I would like it to be and we do keep some of our daily use items there. But, if I needed to clean up really fast, I could and make it look good.
Also, I am sensing a new PIP poll (or did I miss it and this is the spin-off?).

I usually clear off the counter before we have someone over. We only have one bathroom. DH's best friend comes over a lot and no longer gets the 15 minute clean up treatment. On a normal day, I have toothbrushes, toothpaste, and hand soap out. Sometimes my flat iron if I recently used it and it's cooling down.
Ours is a tiny ensuite, so guests aren't ever in there. We do try to keep the main bathroom counter free of stuff, which isn't too hard since there are a ton of drawers and at 4, DD doesn't have that much stuff.
Hopefully we'll be able to keep it that way with two kids, especially once they're older and sharing it.
