"Thank you for your response. I am traveling this week but will be putting together an offer once I have some time to work on that. I don't recall if we discussed salary expectations. You are welcome to provide those expectations via email, or simply wait for me to put together an offer. I expect to have that written up by Wed, Thu at the latest. "
Holy crap.
What do I say in response? We talked about salary in the interview, and I said I was flexible. I only make $30,000 a year, and I'm switching from publishing/editorial to marketing/high tech. It surely has to pay more, and I'm not about to shoot myself in the foot.
Thats so exciting. I would do some research now on what you think you are worth for the position. Then let them send you the offer and submit a counteroffer to that.
I'm such a ball of anxiety right now. I've had nightmares of telling this place I'm quitting. It's terrible. They take it so personally. And they will even more so now. And we're in so much turmoil this is going to unravel almost literally everything.
Congratulations! I agree, let them make the first offer. That's the best position to be in, and most people don't get that change. I hope it starts off high and that you can negotiate it higher!

Our of curiosity, what is the going rate for marketing jobs in your area? Salary.com or one of those sites? I wouldn't place yourself as entry level though unless the job is specifically an entry level job. Journalism experience translates well as you know and can count as relevant experience. I'd be prepared to explain that in any salary negotiations
Honestly, I'm not really sure what the going rate is. My area is so over saturated with college graduates who are desperate for jobs. This particular position has a wonky title, so it's hard to compare. They do want 3 years of writing experience, and I'll be writing press releases, securing advertising, and other similar stuff like that. My gut feeling is it should pay around 40k. Thankfully we have a marketing person at my company who has been a mentor of sorts, and is from the high tech field, so she should have some good advice for me.
Congrats! Agreed re salary.com/glassdoor and see what's the going rate in your area. Let them make the first offer and go from there.
Generally speaking, high tech marketing pays pretty well. The entry level positions I was looking at were $35-55/k depending on location. You have more experience than entry level (2-4 years if I remember correctly) so it should be a pretty decent increase.
