My beagle mix was approximately 1 1/2 when we got her spayed too (she had been brought into the shelter as a stray), and honestly she recovered with no problem. She stayed at the vet overnight (we had to use our shelter's vet which was 45 mins from where we live) and when my H went back the next morning to pick her up they had a hard time keeping her calm because she was SO excited to see him (we'd only had her a week, and are wondering if she thought we didn't want her ). Once he got her home, we tried to carry her up/down the stairs and pick her up to get her on/off the couch but after we caught her running up/down the stairs and jumping on the couch herself for the eightybajillionth time in two days we assumed she must be feeling fine and just kept an eye on her after that. So basically her recovery was no problem. Your pup is going to be just fine too, I'm sure of it

Molly was spayed at 2 years old, she was a little tired. We made sure to request pain meds for a few days, she didn't need them more than 2 days out and was back to her bouncy self in no time. Plus no babies and a lower risk of cancer!

Thanks! I know all dogs are different and all, but this makes me feel better!
I was reading online about the large incision and how the older dogs are the worse it is, the two week recovery etc. and it was freaking me out.
Two week recovery my ass...we were able to keep her quiet for two days, max. Hell, she gave my husband a scare when he stopped for gas on the way home from the vet because while he was pumping gas she made her way onto the floor of the driver's seat and curled up by the pedals. The poor guy was so confused because he couldn't find her at first but was by the car the whole time and the windows were closed. Turns out she's just a ninja, stitches or not Hopefully yours doesn't pull any ninja acts, but I'm sure she'll do great!
Cosmo was about 2 when she was spayed. Her surgery was really not a big deal, and she recovered and healed fine. We kept her calm for a few days, and she mostly layed around bc the pain pills made her sleepy. She didn't want to eat a lot, but we gave her turkey that we had left over, and she would eat that and was drinking fine.
1 and a half really isn't old at all. The articles that say spaying an older dog is hard on them are referencing dogs that are senior, like 7 and above, and the anesthesia is the hardest part for them.
I have big dogs (2 goldens) and they were both spayed about 6 months. Lauren vomited the night of the surgery, but we think it was just the anesthesia and too much water too fast. We had to stop giving them both pain meds after 2 days because they felt good and were jumping on the couch, etc. The vet said having a bit of discomfort might actually slow her down enough to heal. The 2 weeks is the time until they get their stitches out, so you need to keep them a little calm during that time. Even though their incision initially looked pretty big, I can't see it at all. Good luck!
My dog was like osulori's--she obviously didn't read the post op instructions and was jumping on the couch (from the back side--yikes!) and running around like usual. I figured she must be feeling fine.
