I hate doing new stuff because it's so much trial and error but I have to. My hair starting going wavy after W was born and treating it like it's still straight is no longer working for me. I just finished my bottle of shampoo (and my travel bottle since I was too lazy to go to the store last week) so it's time to bite the bullet. I'm trying out the "no poo" thing. Here's to hoping my hair doesn't look like crap!
So, here is my hair this morning, before my shower. (it is not missing a chunk on the right, that's just tucked under the rest)
.:poof:.
And after! The top layer is maddeningly less wavy than the rest
.:poof:.
And the stupid side that refuses to behave and is also way more wavy underneath
.:poof:.
I'm going to keep at it and if I could get my whole head to look like the underside of the back I will be a very happy lady.

neener, I agonized over what to get. There are too many damn choices and naturallycurly is information overload. I decided to just pick something and then troubleshoot from there. I ended up with L'Oreal Evercurl Cleansing Conditioner (no sulfates, no cones). I picked up some Kinky Curly Curling Custard for styling. I'm not sure if that's right for me but I see it recommended over and over and happened to find it at Target. I feel like such a newb! What are you using?
If you don't like the everpure line (I hated it both times I tried it) I've had good results from simply reducing the number of days I shampoo my hair. I'm down to 2x a week, will use conditioner only or not wet my hair at all the other days.
Pretty hair! I use Paul Mitchell round trip. I am fortunate that I can put it in my wet hair, at night, go to sleep and wake up with pretty curls. Are you using a diffuser? or going to bed with it wet?
The other thing is that your hair looks fairly tame, not too frizzy or unruly, so you could probably blow dry it straight.
I don't usually go to bed with it wet because it's still damp when I get up. It takes forever to dry. I may have to try it, though, just to see what happens. I washed and put styling stuff in it this morning then plopped (what a weird term) and then diffused. I am really having to resist the urge to run my fingers through it/brush it.
Do you do any protein or moisturizing treatments? My ends have been all tangled lately and I can't decide if it's just because I need a trim (probably part of the problem) or if it needs some extra treatment or something.

My hair is exactly like yours- the top layer is eh-wavy and the rest is pretty wavy.
I use the l'oreal everpure on the scalp/roots and the Wen knockoff from Sally's on my ends. I tried Wen on my roots but my hair always felt heavy and gross- even after rinsing and combing it for 30 min in the shower.
You have beautiful hair! It looks so healthy and I love the color/highlights
My hair got super curly after having my kids too. So weird. It used to be kind of wavy and now it's really curly with a cowlick (or area in the back of my head) that is SUPER curly and kinky. It's so hard to work with sometimes. I'm going to have to try some of the product recs in this post!

Thank you, it's my natural color. I have a prominent patch of gray in the front (right where my part is, of course) and I'm putting off coloring my hair because I know it won't look as good. Also, I don't want to deal with the cost and hassle of maintaining it. So for now I'm rocking the gray patch.
did you do one last sulfate shampoo? are you certain your products are all silicone free? I have been no poo for almost 2 years now
Technically, I did. I washed my hair with my regular shampoo yesterday. The curling custard is definitely silicone free. The Evercurl seems to be as well. I wrote down a list of silicones from livecurlylivefree and checked the label. You are more than welcome to double check. link
ETA: Pretty hair! I'll ask you the same question about protein/moisture treatment. What do you use? How do you know if you need one?
