How do you wash your produce? Do you just rinse it? Use that veggie wash I see in the produce section? I just rinse produce with water. In the green onion post someone mentioned a salmonella outbreak linked to green onions. Just rinsing isn't going to prevent that. I figure I'm just rinsing off dirt. Am I doing enough?
Sink of warm water, cup of vinegar... throw all my produce in when I get home from the store. Swish it around let sit for awhile, swish again. Rinse, dry, and put away.
I've always only used water and have never gotten sick from produce. Whether I'll end up getting cancer from pesticides is another story I guess, but we do buy a lot of organic now.
Just water. I used to use vinegar and water but have not noticed a difference in how long my produce lasts since I quit. Berries actually seemed to go bad faster with the vinegar to be honest.
A couple of years ago I watched a tv program that tests all kinds of different products (it's called The Shopping Bags) - they tested the veggie wash, a baking soda mixture, the vinegar mixture and plain water, then had a lab test the results. Believe it or not the water did the best job, since then I've just used water.
