Lurker here. I want to buy a dress to wear to some upcoming weddings, but have no idea how J Crew sizing runs. I'm 5'4", 120, and a size 0 at Express and Banana Republic. Is J Crew clothing similarly sized?
It looks like they advise going up one size in petite, so do you think a 2 petite would work? Or should I order a 4 petite to be safe? It's a final sale, so I've got to guess correctly on my first attempt.
That's part of their bridesmaid dress line, right? Those dresses are sized very differently than their in store dresses. I normally wear a 2 petite at BR or J. Crew and had to order an 8 petite in the BM line. Even then, it barely fit over my chest while the rest of the dress was huge on me. My dress needed major alterations, but the girls with smaller chests were fine sizing up a size or two. Also, some of the petite dresses are really short so check the length.
I find J Crew to fit pretty similarly to Banana, though sometimes a little "sleeker" in the hip area. Since that dress looks flowy at the bottom, I would guess a 2 will work unless you're busty. Since it is final sale though, I may err on the larger side and plan to have it taken in if needed. Better to spend another $15-20 than waste the $80.

jaybird - If you don't mind me asking, how busty are you? I am pretty flat (34B), so usually clothes are too baggy around my chest, not the other way around! I'll definitely size up, just trying to figure out how much to size up by. My typical problem areas where clothes tend to be snug are my thighs and shoulders.
Hmm... that's tough because of the petite thing. I'm 5'4" and weigh more than you, and I'd be a 0 or 2 in J.Crew (my limbs are too long for petites). So I'd say you'd be a 0, but petites I think run a bit smaller -- they aren't just shorter.

I'm a 32D. I think you should be okay then. Shoulders shouldn't be an issue and the dresses are generously sized on the bottom. I would definitely size up though. I've been a BM in two weddings with J. Crew dresses and everyone had go at least one size up.
