My husband worked 5 months in Canada last year and the rest here. Does he have to file in Canada for that portion and also claim it in his 1040 here? The company he worked for is not US base and they told him he would receive a T4. We use turbo tax and I'm wondering would that be fine or should we find an accountant.
Ditto this question. I would hire an accountant who knows ex-pat tax and can answer questions about your husband's specific situation.
It is true that your H will report his worldwide income on his US tax return, but if he pays (paid) any tax in Canada, he will be able to claim a foreign tax credit on the US return to offset the taxes paid in Canada.
