Count today as CD1. I started charting when I started to TTC. I didn't want an "oops baby" before I was ready, however, if you don't mind using condoms/abstaining when you are fertile, there is no reason you can't chart now.
It def. doesn't take the magic away, but helps us focus our efforts during the right time of the month lol. DH knows when I am fertile b/c he asks and I tell him. It's NBD - sex has even gotten better than before TTC lol.

Exactly this. It's no big deal. H knows when I'm fertile because we talk about it. We can both handle the idea that it's time to do it! I'd say that we enjoy it!

I charted for over 3 years before TTC; we used condoms during my FW. It hasn't taken anything away from our sex life. DH is very involved in my charting--and has been all along. Me staying on top if my fertility signs meant more condom-less sex, so he had an incentive. ;-) He is pretty excited about TTC; I know it may not work for other couples, but we are both perfectly content to go to the bedroom for the sole purpose of TTC sex.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!

I knew wasn't ovulating, so I charted for 3 months before TTC in order to get a referral to a RE rather than waiting.
I would count that as CD1.
A piece of advice when beginning charting, don't stop trying when you get a high temp. Make sure you get at least 3 high temps with a clear shift. Sometimes you can have a wonky temp and you don't want to miss out when you're fertile.

I started charting right away. I have other friends who also say that they want it to happen naturally and if it is meant to happen it will... I'm a scientist and I need my data and purpose. Besides if I hadn't charted the first two cycles I would have had no idea that I wasn't ovulating and it woul dhave been even more frustrating.
One more thing, it can get exhausting having sex all the time if you have super busy lives. So charting helps you time thing so you don't get worn out before you even hit your fertile window!

totally agree - DH and I work 40 hour weeks & we don't have a ton of energy to have sex every single day, so knowing makes it easier to focus our efforts during the best time
