I'm just about three weeks out from my half marathon, today is supposed to be my 8 mile long run (I'm running it during the week because I had a previously scheduled 10K this weekend). It's raining cats and dogs in Chicago and doesn't look like it's going to let up. I've never run in the rain, and I haven't run 8 miles in over a year....what would you do?
A) Run in the rain
B) Reschedule it and get the 8 in tomorrow morning when it probably won't be raining....but it might.
C) Bang it out on the treadmill
D) Add 2 miles to my 10k on Sunday to make for a long run
Personally I would do it on the TM, but that's because I am weird. My half is on Sunday and it is supposed to be raining. I will just slap on a hat and be good to go!
I cannot count myself among the people who think running in a downpour is fun. I'd probably just move the run to tomorrow if I could. If not I"d rough it outside but I wouldn't be all 'wheee!!!!!!!!!!! I love running in the rain!!!!!!!!!!' about it or anything.

Run in the rain. But I'm from Seattle so I'm used to running in the rain (and sometimes actually enjoy it). My second option would be to wait until tomorrow morning, but not sure I'd want to do that if I had a 10k race on Sunday. My last choice would be the treadmill.

Ditto. I've run in drizzles, even light showers, but the few times I was stuck in down pours for a mile or two it sucked. I can't imagine being stuck in a down pour for my long run.

If it's not thundering and lightening, run in the rain. 8 miles on the TM would not happen for me. I ran a half in the rain, it wasn't the most fun thing in the world, but it's a hell of a lot better than running in extreme heat, or on the TM.
I run in the rain, unless it is crazy windy, thunder/lightning, or I have a baby with me. I will also stick to the treadmill versus my normal running trail if it has rained heavily for over 24 hours. Trees go down like crazy on my trail! Big trees!
Thanks for the advice, everybody! I'm going to wait it out until 4ish to see if the rain lightens up a bit and then we'll see. I would totally do it if it weren't 50 degrees. My immune system sucks, and I really don't want to get sick by being wet and cold. Crossing my fingers it lets up and I don't have to brave the treadmill!

Lol, I don't love it, but I HATE the treadmill.
no joke. I'd pick rain over the mill for a long run just about any day. mostly I just try to plan around the weathe thoughr. I don't get what's fun about being completely soaked head to toe.
I don't really love running in the rain. A light drizzle sure, but not a downpour, especially if it is cold.
A treadmill isn't the worse thing in the world. I hadn't run on the treadmill in forever (like years) and I ran 8 miles on it over the weekend. It wasn't as bad as I thought.
I could handle a little rain, no big deal. But with the way it poured all day long here today, I'm not getting soaked to the bone and risking getting sick 3 weeks out from a half.
I did 4 miles on the treadmill and I'm hoping it clears to do my 8 tomorrow. Thanks for your advice, ladies!
