Namely, my husband.
My DH has super dry skin. I tell him to:
A. stop scrubbing his body like he's got the bubonic plague B. use lotion C. stop scrubbing his body with a dry rough towel when he gets out of the shower
but does he listen? Noooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now, his skin is so scaly and dry that he's itchy. He is allergic to rubbing alcohol, therefore any form of alcohol must be avoided (or I'll never hear the end of it). He wants something that's free of fragrance, dyes, or perfumes.
He was convinced that baby lotion was the ticket because "it's for babies!" even though it has fragrance, dye, and stearyl alcohol. The baby lotion didn't work.
Every once in a while he'll get little red bumps and I tell him to put benadryl on them but he said that benadryl freaks him out. I tried to explain that benadryl applied topically does not have the same effect as the benadryl that gets injected but he won't do it.
I stop myself from choking him by reminding myself that his medical condition makes him anxious about any little thing that goes wrong with his body.
So! Can you recommend anything that will help his dry itchy skin?
Serious question - will it make him smell all coconuty?
Please say yes.
I've used coconut oil that doesn't really smell like anything (I think it was refined?) and coconut oil that makes me smell like an Almond Joy. I of course prefer the latter.
when my mom was doing chemo i think she used CeraVe.
I use this and so does my DD. She has eczema and it works good on that.
If he can't find any lotion he likes, have him finish his shower, keep the water on but step out of the shower stream. Put on Vaseline. For some reason in the shower it goes on without being greasy. It makes my skin so soft.

When my uncle had cancer (that is what your h has, right?) and had skin issues, the hospital gave him auqaphor ointment. I don't know if an ointment would be an option.
My favorites when dealing with dry skin:
Cerave Eucerin cream (in the jar, not the bottle) Avalon organic's plain lotion. They have scented ones too. Not as heavy as the eucerin but maybe a good choice once he gets the dry skin under control.

I also have insanely sensitive skin, and I use CeraVe, Cetaphil, and Aveeno. Aveeno on reacting (red, itchy, burny) skin feels so amazing. Make sure anything he gets is fragrance free.
Also, if he is used to taking scalding hot or even hot showers, add that to the NO list - it strips your skin of all of its natural oils, and they are hard to replace, even with the best lotions.
My H is the same way. He's crazy, crazy allergic to fragrance... once I got fed up and bought regular Dial and he's fucking allergic to that. Who the fuck is allergic to plain dial? God.
Aveeno daily unscented for the most part. He also uses that Neutrogena Norwegian fisherman hand lotion on his hands & feet this time of year, but let's be real that's pretty much just vaseline anyway. With H's allergies in mind, Joaquin's pediatrician recommended we switch to Crisco if she started breaking out. For real, Crisco like you use for baking. So, that's an option if you're completely fed up with his ass.
H uses Aveeno - but I'm not sure of the ingredients. He's a baby when it comes to skin. (yet like your husband doesn't really take care of it - just complains when he's uncomfortable)
