Envelope system for smartphone and web

I may try this to use the envelope system w/o actually having to use cash.  As in, I will keep using my credit cards for purchases (and points!), but use this to track each category.

I use this and like it a lot. As long as you are strict about entering purchases as soon as you make them, I find it very helpful to know where we're at in our budget.

So you do the entering of purchases into categories vs the app doing it for you (like mint)? 

Oh I like this better than mint.  It always categories crap wrong and I spend forever fixing it.  Also I dont want to budget my electricity or co pays.  Just groceries, eating out, clothing etc.  Things where I am likely to overspend.

Mint sounds way easier--the categories are not that hard to fix.

You do the entering into categories yourself. I like having to enter it myself because it forces me to look at the budget on a regular basis. I am just more aware of it with this method.

I do the something on my home computer in excel. I dont need it on my smartphone but it seems like a good idea.
