I ordered 2 things from a seller on 1/4. They were being made so I wasn't sure when shipping would take place, I went in a week later (1/11) to email and ask if she knew when they would ship, sent the email then noticed her shop was closed. no reply. Emailed again 1/15 and said I would dispute with Etsy if I didn't have a reply by 1/17. Didn't get one so opened a dispute with Etsy. Have yet to hear anything from them. I just googled to see if I could find anything on how etsy handles the disputes and am not finding anything good Anyone had any experience with a dispute through them? Wondering how long I should wait for them to reply or if I should just go ahead and dispute the charge on my card now (paid directly with cc through etsy and not through paypal)
I haven't had an Etsy dispute yet. But what do the seller's shop policies say? Sometimes I forget to read those before purchasing. If seller is still within shop policy guidelines, you are probably out of luck.
I would think shop closing while orders are open would fall on the "refund the buyer" side. Is Etsy like Ebay and they give the seller time to work things out before proceeding with the dispute?
When I opened a dispute with Etsy, I received a canned email within 24 hours and was also copied on the message Etsy sent to the seller. They gave the seller two weeks to resolve the issue. When the seller never responded, they asked if I had received the items yet--I had not. At that point, they asked the seller one more time to respond. It took about 1 more week. She issued a refund and claimed the package was lost in the mail. So, from open to close, it took a little over 3 weeks to get a refund.

I had something similar happen. Etsy refunded me whatever the woman had in her Etsy account, which was only $12 of the $50 I paid. :-( I think PayPal may have covered it if I had done the direct-from-bank-account option instead of paying with my Discover through PayPal. I probably should have taken it up with Discover, but I'm lazy.
I asked etsy this morning for a follow up, I received the canned "you opened a dispute" message but never a copy of anything they sent to the seller. I think I am going to be safe and just dispute it with my cc too. thanks!
I gave the seller 3 weeks to respond to multiple emails and when nothing happened, I disputed it to Etsy who gave the seller 2 weeks to respond and nothing happened. After that, I was able to obtain a full refund from PayPal.
You can try to enter the shop's url into the wayback machine on http://www.archive.org. It can retrieve old webpages. It doesn't have everything, but it's worth a shot.
