We never used our enclosed front porch for anything until we turned it into the kitty room. We never use our dining room for anything other than dumping our crap wjen we walk in the back door. We rarely use the largest front bedroom - it's currently storing some toys and books.
I really think I could live in a tiny one room cabin.
Our guest room is only used when my MIL comes into town, or someone needs a place to crash, and our dining room just exists to hold the GIANT dining room table that we inherited from said MIL.
Unfortunately, the largest room--our family room. It's the only room the cats are allowed in. I got so tired of cleaning their hair off the furniture and never actually using it that we just got rid of it. Now there's a TV, a drum set, and two lawn chairs in there. We're going to leave it like that until we decide what we want to do with it. It kind of makes me feel like I'm in college again. LOL.
ETA: Also our entire guest house, which is pretty much just storage for our camping gear.
It was originally the laundry room, but the prior owners moved the laundry to the garage and built a desk in there. It's a small room, and since it has linoleum we have the cats litter box & food in there. It also has our printer and internet router....then a bunch of other junk. I hardly ever go in there.
None. I love each and every room in our house. Even if they aren't really, really used, I still look in them, admire how pretty they are and the constant cleanliness of them soothes my soul.
OK. So I know that sounds a lil' crazy. But seriously, we've worked hard on the entire house over the past 2 years and it's fabulous.
The entire 2nd floor is rarely used. Our master bedroom is on the first floor, but the 2 guest bedrooms, a full bathrrom and a loft are all upstairs and only used when we have overnight guests.

Our whole upstairs.
We have a one and a half story cape cod and our upstairs unlike most cape cods is a bedroom not an attic. Unfortunatly, due to the ceiling slope, hubby being over 6ft and the fact I never had central a/c put in up there we can't use it for a bedroom.
Although when I was a teenager it was my bedroom. Right now it storage and guest bedroom.

We currently have no wasted rooms.
Ala, I'm glad you asked this question though. Since we're looking to buy/build a house, that has been a topic of discussion lately. It's interesting to hear how other people use (or don't use) their space.

Our front living area and formal dining room. I do have a huge oak dining room table with 8 chairs, but have only sat down there for a meal twice in the 2.5 years we've been there. We have a small dinette table in the kitchen that gets more use but normally we eat our meals on the couch with TV trays.

If I got what we would actually use we would have ended up with a one bedroom/four bathroom house.. But that doesn't really exist. Not around here anyway.

Our only ground level room is our living room and we never use it. It's become the "dog" room where we confine our dogs to when we arent home. I have a tri-level home and we walk in the front door to a foyer and this living room. Immediately to the right is steps going down to our family room, bath/laundry and kitchen. Beyond those stairs is the staircase going up to our 3BR/1BA.
Our 2 other bedrooms are mostly used for storage. My hope is to turn the smallest room into a wardrobe room and get all our clothes/dressers out of our bedroom so I have room for a sitting area.

Not too much. DH and I have our own living rooms, and we love it. The nursery isn't being used obvs, but it will be soon. We do have a solarium off our kitchen that we hope to convert to a living room this summer. The front living room would then become our office, and our current office would go back to a guest bedroom. In some ways, we have way more rooms than we need, but when we picture kids, the house feels tiny. I imagine we will all like our space.
