But I know I shouldn't, and I won't. He told me last night that he advises me to run at all during pregnancy. He's known me for years so he knows I ran a marathon a few months ago and have been running for some time now. He's very conservative with advice overall but alas, he's got the MD and I don't, and I know he's only looking out for me. I know he's worried about my clotting disorder (which I have to take a baby aspirin for every day for the duration of pregnancy), but still, I'm going to miss running.
But the good news from last night is that I wasn't expecting to see much on the u/s but baby has a strong heartbeat that was obvious as soon as the technician turned the screen over to me - it was so cool to see. Great appointment overall, baby is measuring on schedule so my due date of September 19th will likely remain so.

I can - I'll have to create a low-impact routine for the gym. There's no way I can avoid activity altogether and I told him that, so he was fine with my other suggestions. I just love running so much; I pretty much gave up everything except strength training as a runner. The elliptical is going to seem so boring in comparison.
I had been running since my BFP though, around 3-4 times a week at no more than 2-3 miles each at a much slower pace than normal, so I thought he'd at least approve of that. I'm bummed. I always thought I'd be one of those crazy pregnant runners that runs a half-marathon at like 20 weeks. Alas, it's not meant to be.
The good news is that I already have guaranteed entry into the NYC Marathon in 2015 (long story, but I was supposed to run that marathon in November but it got canceled due to Sandy) - if all goes well, I'll still have about 2 years to get back into running shape even when I have to start from scratch later this year.

He's probably against it because of the impact running can have on joints and such...I guess? Hopefully you can find something that works out for you. I've been swimming through my pregnancy and really love it...not that it's anything like running, but at least it's something active and low impact.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I did like spinning when I did it briefly so I may try that again. I was never really into swimming but I think it's worth a try if I get bored with everything else.
I agree with @littlemoxie, that there are definitely times when it's ok to ignore a doc's advice. They're just human too. But like everyone else said, with your complication it's probably better safe than sorry. And those alternatives workouts could be really satisfying!

I was a runner as well but broke my foot and then got my BFP. Seriously the BFP was the week I got cleared from PT to start running again. My OB said walking would be fine since I lost so much cardio. Le sigh.
I've been walking because I do it outside. That is the thing I love most about running is just putting on my shoes and hitting the pavement. I can't do the treadmill or anything, I get super bored. I hope you find something you enjoy!
