I took my mom (and sister) to SF for my mom's bday this past weekend. It was awesome and we had an amazing time. I arrive home on Monday night, late and DH tells me that DD (who is 4) had been throwing up for a few hours. She stopped vomiting and wasn't running a fever, but the net morning was complaining that stomach was hurting and refused to eat anything. I just "felt" like something was wrong all day and by dinner, I decided to take her to the ER. The doctors thought I was over reacting and that it was just the beginning of the flu or even constipation. Her blood tests came back a little concerning, but the doctor still tried to send us home (her CRP was 60 and should have been 5). I pushed for a CT scan of her stomach. Results two hours later, positive for appendicitis, but caught before it ruptured. They admitted her and she had surgery yesterday morning. She's doing really well, eating and up and moving around. The moral of the story is to trust your instincts. I know my kid and I knew something was wrong.
Oh, and to make this MM (or not MM), the estimate after insurance is $3800
Good catch and sending wishes for a speedy recovery. Health issues like that are difficult, since there isn't usually a good middle ground between seeing your primary care doc and going to the ER.

Good for you for pushing when you knew something was wrong. My uncle died at 18 when his ruptured. The doctor had told my grandmother it was the flu and sent them home.
I have heard this same sentiment from several moms over the years and I agree. I am glad you trusted your gut and I hope your little girls get well quickly.
