I just finished Hopeless by Colleen Hoover (author of Slammed and Point of Retreat) and I could not put it down. My guilty pleasure these days are YA novels of the non-paranormal variety.
So tell me, what are you reading, or what have you read lately?
I just finished The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. Old, but really good.
The Light Between Oceans by M.L Stedman was interesting and well written but pretty heartbreaking. Not the best book to read while pregnant but oh well.
Gone Girl, but everyone knows that one.
I also read Pope Joan by Donna Woolfolk Cross and really enjoyed it. Another one that's been around awhile but it was really excellent and interesting.
I am looking at my Goodreads list and it's sad how many books I read between October and now that I did not really like/wouldn't recommend. I've been on a bad streak I guess.
I'm reading a really cheesy vampire/witch/academic-in-Oxford book right now: "A Discovery of Witches." It's awesome, LOL. I wanted a good fluffy read, and this is perfect.
Oh man, I would have LOVED Discovery of Witches if it had been like 200 pages shorter.
Uh-oh... I think I'm about 20% through it right now. Some of the writing annoys me, but overall it fits what I was looking for. I just got past the yoga class part. I feel pretty stable overall after having E, but I still can't handle the idea of reading a book in which serious stuff happens. So most of my typical choices are off the table for now.
I just started the 50 Shades trilogy last week. I avoided in April when it was all the rage, but got it at the library (librarian said it used to have 500 holds on it!). Better then I expected. But then again I used to love Danielle Steele back in the day. Just a fun light page turner.

I thought it dragged in the middle, but most people I know loved it so I am probably in the minority. It's a good light read for sure and I totally understand being in a more delicate place with reading. I am very much that way in pregnancy which may explain why I have disliked most of the books I read since I got pregnant. The Casual Vacancy was the worst. WORST.
I LOVED 11/22/63 by Stephen King. It's not really scary at all, and so so good - I didn't want it to end and it's like 500 pages.
I liked this one too. As far as YA goes, I just finished Wonder and Fault in our Stars. I highly recommend both of them but warn that they are a bit of tear jerkers.
I also just recently read Light Between Oceans and really liked how it was written. I still don't know how I feel about the ending. (IMO, sign of a good book!)
Now I'm reading A Secret Kept by Tatiana de Rosnay, who wrote Sarah's Key. So far, so good. It's set in France and I don't know French so a lot of the names/places are hard to remember.
Next up I'm reading The Kitchen House, which was recommended to me based on Light Between Oceans. I'm hoping it's good!
For YA, I've been reading the Ashfall series. They're really cheesy, but damn if they don't keep me up all night reading through the fast-paced, post-apocalyptic action.
In grown up world, I am reading Mr. Penumbra's 24 Hour Bookstore, which is very quirky and fun. I'm about to start The Light Between the Oceans for book club. Oh, we just read The Night Circus, which I actually read last year, but everyone found the book interesting, even if they didn't like the plot, they loved the mood of the book. It's very much a fairy tale for adults. I liked it.

I attempted Night Circus and only got half way through. I rarely quit a book, but I did that one.
I literally just finished "Defending Jacob" moments ago. I will be processing this book for a very long time.
This is one of a handful of books that shocked me with the ending. I was impressed. Light Between Oceans was OK. Not my fav. I hated a Discovery of Witches. It just annoyed me. I'm reading Gone Girl right now...about 1/2 through and not sure if I like or not. I did enjoy 11/22/1963. I listened to Night Circus on tape and was enchanted. Not sure if I would have liked it as much if I had merely read it. I just finished The Twelve (sequel to The Passage) and liked it.

Oh yeah, I loved the whole A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series, but they are LONG. And all the endings are kind of cliffhangers, which made me read them all back to back, and that's a serious time commitment.
