I just got my one year test results back and everything is perfect. I feel like celebrating, but this will have to do since I'm sick in bed. <)
Some of you might may remember, while we were pregnant, I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and had surgery in December. Although thyroid cancer is "the best cancer to have", because it is so slow moving and has a very low mortality rate, the fact that it had spread to surrounding lymphnodes and I was pregnant made it terrifying. Surgery went well, they felt like they got good margins and I was told I would not need to have follow up treatment, as originally planned, in the months following LO's birth which would have meant seperation for at least two weeks. Everything since has been textbook and we are thrilled!
My Dr. presented my case at the national thyroid cancer something or other and it generated so much discussion that he never got to present his second case. I think it's great that it might help someone else get diagnosed sooner. I guess my scans looked pretty good and he really only did a biopsy on one area that looked slightly suspicious because he was being extra cautious due to the pregnancy. Thank goodness he did and can share the before and after scans with colleagues to show them what a non typical thyroid cancer might look like.
Thanks letting me celebrate here and be an AW! (heart)
