Kate's on hypoallergenic formula, which costs $35.99 a can...one can lasts about 5 days (if that). DH just did some math, and estimated it to be about $2,600. Ella was also on hypoallergenic formula.

I haven't done a calculation but we are using the same formula so I imagine this is close. Good God.
I need to know this too because I made a secret deal with my husband
What is this secret deal?
He said when I was pregnant that because formula is so expensive that he'd buy me a gift equal to 1/2 the amount we would have spent on formula if I BF for a year.

Right now we go through a $15.99 can every 5 days. M has been supplemented since a month old. We used to buy Similar for $25/can. I can't say exact cost because cans used to last longer. A LOT

$250 per month times 10 months is $2500 for 2 babies. Also fun: we made $10k less last year bc hubby did less moonlighting to be home with the babies and me more.
I don't know the total since the beginning. S has always eaten the RTF type, so it's definitely been a lot. Right now, we spend $42.00 every 5-6 days.
S never would take the powder kind. He would vomit every time we have ever tried it. I just keep telling myself that we only have a few more months of formula.

We spend $50 month copay but we use $25 can ever 2.5 days so about $300 month, so thankful for insurance.
How do you get insurance to pay for formula? I so want in on this! We haven't spent that much yet on formula. We had a crapload of samples so have only been buying for 1 months (we started formulas at 7 mnths old) so we have spent under $150 so not to bad in comparison to most.

Livin's insurance pays because her son has MSPI and can not tolerate typical hypoallergenic. He is on a rx version. Unless it is medically necessary, insurance does not pay for formula. Mine wouldn't even cover the formula that Livin uses.

Well that makes sense. I thought it might be a benefit to some insurances or obamacare like breast pumps can be.

I could say something really snarky but I'll just keep it to myself.

True, we have great insurance, we are thankful as many don't cover even when medically needed.

Hayes- there was a period of time when we thought we had to switch to the rx version because Ari hadn't gotten over his MSPI symptoms. My dh works in Mass but has Minn. insurance because that is where his company is based. Every Mass. insurance company covers the rx formula but the Minn. insurance does not. We fought and fought for weeks. It was horrible. Thankfully, Ari began to tolerate the hypoallergenic so we didn't have to make the switch.
