Even though I'm nearing 50 posts, I'm posting an intro thread because a few people told me I should weeks ago and I never did.
So. The main thing I need to make known is that I am a nerd with too many fandoms. These include Star Trek (Picard 4 lyfe), BSG, and Doctor Who (which I'm just getting into), but, top three: Harry Potter, music, and Joss Whedon (especially Buffy and Firefly).
I have an MA in English lit and am also a huge nerd about that, but I can't call my love for literature a fandom. My MA thesis was a comparison/contrast of British and American fantasy and focused on Alice/her world and Dorothy/Oz. My main area of interest now is the madwoman, and I'm especially interested in re-imaginings of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland that feature a Mad Alice. My avatar is from the video game Alice: Madness Returns by American McGee, a very good Mad Alice story.
My username comes from a Tori Amos song, "Talula," from a line therein that makes no sense until you think about it way too much as an angsty teenager in the 90s.
After I finished my MA, I worked for five years in higher education as an academic counselor, but now that I'm a SAHM, I've started doing a lot of the writing I never felt I had time for before. Eventually (this fall?), I'll start another Master's, this time in library sciences, because my Ultimate Super Dream Job is an academic librarian who teaches intro-level lit courses on the side. Well, and famous novelist who gets to wear Alexander McQueen on a red carpet just once in her life because her work was adapted for film. One of those seems slightly more realistic.
I'm Southern, non-religious, an introvert, and a smartass.
Hi! I'm sure you'll fit in just fine here... and we like poetry here... I won't request a haiku since I'm sure someone else will, but I would love a limerick. And I'm a big geeky fan girl too!
Have you watched phoebe in wonderland? I just watched it and thought it was an interesting look at what it feels like to be "mad."
What kind of novel will you write?
How do you like your grits?
That movie made me bawl my freaking eyes out. Loved it, wish it had gotten more attention.
I imagine it'll be a young adult novel, but not yet another paranormal thing, or dystopia, or even a series. I love YA, but I'm so tired of all of those things. Unless, of course, Libba Bray or Rick Riordan authors the series, in which case I'm all in. I highly recommend them both for different reasons.
I like my grits sweet, with syrup or molasses. But I prefer biscuits and chocolate gravy.

I suck at poetry. I leave that to my writing-major friends!
The best way to describe it, really, is a hot, thin chocolate pudding that can be poured on pancakes or biscuits, have bacon or sausage dipped in it, or just be eaten with a spoon. The recipe involves butter, cocoa powder, sugar, and whole milk. Health food, you know.

My mom made that a couple times (my grandma was from South Carolina) and it was always too sweet for me, even as a kid. Maybe because I have a deep love for my mom's spicy sausage gravy for B&G.

What do you geek out over?
Who, Potter, Firefly, kinda getting into Sherlock, LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek... I'm sure I'm leaving some stuff out. One of my best friends is a teen librarian so I read lots of YA stuff - my reading has really fallen off since having the baby though!
One little limerick won't hurt - and I don't know if the haiku folks will let you off the hook with out giving one up!

OMG Cat I love you too! (heart) (heart) Sherlock is so good!

My mom always cut the sugar in her chocolate gravy so that it was more bittersweet.
I can't believe I left out Sherlock! Any future pet I own will be named Benedict Cumberbatch. And when I found out Martin Freeman was playing Bilbo in The Hobbit, I immediately informed my husband that he is Watson and also awkward porn stand-in guy from Love Actually.
Glad others share my Whedon love! Any other Dollhouse watchers?

Confession: I might have forced my H to start watching Castle, because of Nathan Fillions role as Malcolm Reynolds and I may have also been campaigning hard for Malcolm as a boy's name.
I watched the first few episodes of Dollhouse but never finished out the series. It's in my Netflix queue though and one of these days I'll watch it start to finish.

I (heart) Castle! I loved the Halloween episode where he's wearing his costume from Firefly! Malcolm would have been on the short list if we had a boy, too, and since I got DH into Firefly I think he would have totally agreed with it!

~~~ Vomit free since '93!
I liked it but lost interest when I found out it was going to be canceled. I was equally sad to see Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles go because it was underrated and awesome, I love Summer Glau, and Shirley Manson was on it toward the end.
What did you think about how the final fight in the last Harry Potter movie was changed? What does BSG stand for? I love me some Picard (ever seen Patrick Steward in "A Christmas Carol"?)
So I take it you've read the Great and Terrible Beauty series. I recommend those books to everyone. Also, I'd like a haiku. I find them interesting. If it involves farts there will be bonus points.
YES. I do, too! I'm madly in love with Libba Bray. Have you read any of her other books? I'm very excited about the Diviners series. The first book (same title) is amazing and creepy and flapper-y.
I'll think on the haiku. I've never written one, and losing my virginity is such a BFD.
I had mixed feelings about it. I really, really wanted to see the Transfigured desks! I mostly hate the changes to the Big Snape Scene. That really sucked. In 7.1, I love how they handled the telling of Beadle the Bard's tale; that animation was beautiful.
BSG = Battlestar Galactica
I have seen his Christmas Carol; loved it! He's such a great actor, and I'm pretty sure that's why Next Generation is my favorite Trek series.
