I bought a $7 block of cheese at Kroger yesterday and discovered it was coated in mold when I started to put it away at home. The expiration date is April 22. I'm going to go back to return or exchange it, but would it be reasonable to request any further compensation for the trouble of making a second unscheduled trip to the store just to return it? If so, what? It's my first time shopping at this store in several years, and honestly I was already not inclined to go back any time soon due to their high prices compared to my other grocery options in town.
Trying for #3; FET 8/18 -- BFN. Leaving things up to chance for now... After three years, three IVFs, and two FETs, we finally have our miracle babIES!

DH accidentally bought a bottle of expired grapefruit juice from our grocery store (HEB) recently. I brought it back and they refunded the money and let me take a fresh bottle for free. Maybe your store will do that?
If it's inconvenient to go back, then I'd just keep the receipt in your wallet and tell customer service on your next planned visit. I bought some avocados once (bought in bulk) and they were all spoiled when I get home. I just kept the receipt and told customer service on my next trip. NBD.
I used to manage a supermarket. In some competitive markets, stores will give a double refund on specific perishable items so long as you can prove dates with original packaging and a receipt. Usually a store that offers this will advertise it in their weekly ad. Our store limited it to produce, deli, and meats. A store cut block of cheese would be refunded at twice the cost, but a block of prepackaged Kraft would not.

I knew the internet would set me straight! Somebody told me I should ask for a gift card too, and I wanted a second opinion (or over a dozen) before I made an idiot of myself in real life.
