My Husband is watching a History show (I think) about bull riding. Which I don't mind watching bull riding, I find it a little mean because I attach human emotion to the bull and assume the bull must be stressed but I have no proof to back that up. I have watched movies like 8 Seconds, which makes me cry like a baby once Lane dies, every single time.
But I cannot wrap my head around WHY people do these kinds of things. Why spend your whole life gambling with your life against an animal that you cannot judge what their actions are going to be? I was trying to Google what happens to bulls who kill their riders and got a whole bunch of Lane Frost articles, but at the bottom was one about a 12 year old boy who died.
He was in a jr bull riding competition and died. Why, why put your child on an unpredictable animal?! An animal that you are essentially pissing off and it is trying to buck you off.
I just cannot imagine why people want to do this? And then I feel so sorry for the families of those who have lost someone due to bull riding because that person could be alive if they hadn't chosen to ride a several hundred pound animal that was not trained for allowing people to ride them.
I KNOW anything in life can kill you, I KNOW other sports are just as dangerous. But most sports do not involve an unpredictable animal. Most other "sports" involve man made items that have been tested/have a level of predictably.
A bull rider has some thick leather and a wild animal under him who is pissed as hell.
I don't know. But one time I was somewhere, it may have been a rodeo, and they had little kids "bull riding" lambs. Like when the kids were done they got back in their strollers. I don't understand that shit.
I've never really understood bull-riding either. I know a lot of people approach it as a sport. I guess kind of like horseback riding? I mean, while horses are trained, some of them can be unpredictable and dangerous to the rider. Obviously horses are different from bulls though. Yeah, I don't know what to say, as it doesn't make much sense to me either.
I could see in a petting zoo where the animals were used to people and someone was there making sure the animal was not going to turn on them. I mean you stand of chance of being thrown off a horse, but for the most part the horse is broken in and taught to allow a rider. Camels at the zoo have a rope so that the animal is under control and a human is in control of the situation.
But a freaking bull; one that will kill you if you get in its path. Whhhyyy?
And a lot of these people have children. This one dude is all "I have a small child and I bull ride for him so I can feed my family". Uh, the moment that bull stomps you or gores you, you're done bringing in money and then not only is your wife broke but your child is fatherless.
Why do people race cars? Or ride motorcycles? Or skydive?
I know I'm being picky but a vehicle can be predictable and a skydiver relies on a parachute to save them. All of these are man made and have a level of predictability to them. Granted, if the parachute doesn't open, you're fucked. If your race car starts burning oil, chances are you have enough warning to stop racing before something blows. Sometimes you don't, obviously people have died doing it.
But 2 ton bull has no predictability what so ever. You are at the mercy of that animal. I just don't understand getting on an animal that you cannot even say you'll be alive at the end of it. And putting your children on an animal that could kill you just because you looked at it wrong out in a field.
I know what you're saying LGW, I do.
ETA: I'm also not saying anyone is wrong. I'm just talking because my Husband wont talk to me about this since he is all into the show and keeps shushing me.
