I have a moby and an ergobaby carrier on the way. Is it worth it to buy the ergo infant insert too? How long do you even need that? Sorry for flooding the board with silly questions--I'm getting to the panic stage!!

I'd say just use the Moby until baby can fit in the Ergo. The Moby is SO nice and so snuggly when they're teeny, and the Ergo is so awesome for when they're bigger. But, I didn't even get my Ergo until a couple of months ago. I used the Moby and a ring sling before.

This is an option too. I used my ring sling in the beginning but my H wouldn't use it so he always used the ergo. We also walk everywhere and don't have a car so we do a lot of baby wearing.
I have both and I love both! I used the Moby until Lincoln was about 3 months and then I got the Ergo when he was 6 months and I use it constantly! I honestly don't feel the need for the infant insert unless you plan on using the Ergo right from the start.

I am not sure where you live, but I wasn't a fan of the Moby in really hot weather. If you live somewhere that will be on the cooler side for the first few months, I would say Moby and then Ergo. If you live somewhere really warm, Ergo with the infant insert.
In the beginning, he slept so much I don't think we would have needed the insert. When I would go to the grocery he would always fall asleep so I felt bad waking him to wear him. I think maybe I would skip the insert. You can always get it if you need it.

Agree with others, Moby then Ergo no insert. You might want to get a sling too since the moby is not the easiest thing in the world to put on yourself. It's not bad, but sometimes I was just going to the corner store and didn't want to mess with all that for a short trip.

I loved the moby when she was itty bitty. But when she got older she hated facing in so we got a carrier that could forward face. Glad I never spent money on the ergo personally.

We used a cheapo ring sling when he was too tiny for the ergo. We never used the infant insert, I just rolled up a blanket and put it in the bottom of the Ergo and that was all he needed.

I used the Ergo for both DS & DD from about 6 weeks on. (I had a c/s, so I didn't want the Ergo waist strap on my waist before then.) The infant insert was not needed; a rolled blanket under their butt elevated them enough.
Since I'm short, I wasn't a fan of the Moby, but DH used it with both kids.
I got a ring sling from Sleeping Baby Productions before I had DD, and I loved it. I was able to pack it in my hospital bag and wear her in the hospital. The nurses thought it was great that I was wearing her. The ring sling was so easy for quick trips, and it fit in the diaper bag much better than the Ergo.

I would vote to just use the moby and not get the insert. I loved my moby for how snuggly it was until he got bigger. It's a bit more of a pain to put on, but I miss being able to use it. We were also told at the store where we tried on the ergo, that you can just roll up a receiving blanket to put on the bottom to help boost the little babies up. I just got my ergo for Christmas, so I can't speak to how it works for a tiny babe, but I did love the Moby, and think I would have preferred it.
We had both. He wasn't a big fan of the moby we only used it around the house. We used the ergo with insert from the beginning. Depending on how big your baby is depends on whether you need it or can just use a blanket in the very beginning
I used the Bjorn when DD was born-4 months, then started using the Ergo. Once they start to get bigger, you'll be happy you have the Ergo because IMO no other carrier is as easy on your back! I love love LOVE the Ergo. DD is super comfortable in it and I can (and do) wear her for hours in that thing.
We had the ergo and a ring sling. I wasn't comfortable using the ring sling so we just stuck with the ergo. DH ins tiny so I used the insert until he was six months. I think they have to be 12 or 14 lbs before using the ergo alone.
I was never that good at putting on the moby, but I would wear her in it around the house. It was much nicer to wear around inside because it is so snuggly and not bulky. But I was afraid to go out for a walk with it in case it loosened and then I'm screwed! Thats really my issue though, not an issue with the moby itself.
I was gifted the ergo including the insert and I did use it quite a bit, but as for if it is truly necessary I'm not sure. I loved how it snuggled her little body softly. How much extra $ is it for the insert?
there was a period of time when she was too big for the insert but too small to go without according to the weight guideline on the product. I wore her in the bjorn a lot during this time.
I like the bjorn for the forward facing but I found it would hurt my back wearing her in it whereas in the ergo I can wear her for a while and feel fine, ergo is very supportive.
I love the moby SO much more than the ergo! I only ended up using the moby. I didn't get the insert for the ergo so I didn't try it til he was 4 months, buy even now that he is 24 pounds I prefer him in the moby. The ergo hurts my back.
