This year I signed up for a health care FSA and I have no idea what I'm doing. The instruction forms I got are not very clear, so I'm hoping someone can help.
It's though ADP, if anyone else uses that maybe you'll know more than me?
So if I want to submit receipt online, I need to scan it, correct?
I got a prescription from Costco. I have the regular Costco receipt that says "pharm rx" and the cost. But I can't use that, correct? Do I scan the label paper thing (the extra label they give you that's not attached to the bottle) that's with it that lists the drug and the cost?
The only receipts I get from the doctor are the CC receipts. Should I be asking the doctor for something more detailed? Will they know what I'm talking about? Do you know what I'm talking about?
For my FSA, I have had to submit an actual itemized-type doctor's receipt that shows what the charge was for (i.e. - visit, blood work, physical, etc.) and send that in with the CC receipt.
Yes, to submit a receipt online, you will need to scan it. For the prescription, I submit both the drug receipt and the CC receipt.
Mine isn't through ADP, but I can submit JPGs for mine, so I take photos of receipts with my iphone, email them to myself (they go through as JPGs, and submit those online.
For prescriptions, I only submit the receipt -- Duane Reade and Rite Aid say very clearly that it is for an Rx so the company will take those. I don't bother submitting info about the drug, and I've never been asked for it. The receipt alone suffices for my FSA.
For doctor's visits, I need more than the credit card receipt because they often just say that I paid $40 and don't say copay or whatever. I ask when I pay for substantiation and they will usually give my a handwritten receipt that says copay on it.
Thanks everyone! I think I know what I'm doing now. I'm doing fertility stuff, so I have tons of receipts for small charges, but they already total well over $100. I am tempted to wait and do it all at once at the end of the year, but I want to at least submit something so I can make sure I do it right. Taking pictures of receipts will be a lot easier than scanning, and I can get EOBs online. Thanks for all the tips!
