It is a great intro to making bread, 2 summers ago I made bread every other day or so... But I could never prefect the sandwich bread so I went back to the store. I have been debating starting again with DS2 MSPi.
Get the book, I borrowed it from the library and it was super helpful reference.
I have made a few breads from it. I am no longer buying store bread because the soft American bread made us all happy. I will tell you it's a lot easier if you have a stand mixer!
I was thinking of starting to make my own bread. I hate crappy grocery store bread and fancy bread costs a fortune which sickens me because I know how cheap flour is dammit!
didn't someone post a recipe here before for no knead bread? was that you cat? If so please post again! I really need to do that. Also would like to know if the bread will work with whole wheat or maybe a half in half combo?
Sorry for thread hijack, figured hijack would be better than two bread making threads right next to each other ha
You can do any bread whole wheat - it's a matter of getting the mix right. I've done this recipe both ways, and it was super yum. www.alexandracooks.com/2012/11/07/my-mothers-peasant-bread-the-best-easiest-bread-you-will-ever-make/ and ridiculously easy. The first time I made it I didn't use the stand mixer and it was fine, but the stand mixer just makes life simpler. And where is this other bread thread of which you speak?

I do no-knead bread that I believe has a similar method to that book, but I don't do the book. This is my recipe, though I skip the whole transferring to a towel step and just flop it out into another bowl. Also, I sub in 50% wheat flour and double the recipe to fit my larger dutch oven.
