What is your travel style? First class all the way? All inclusive? Backpacking and hostels? One place or going from place to place? Relaxation or adventure?

Boutique resorts/hotels a la Tablet Hotels and the like or budget sleeping on friend's floors. Not much in between. Single destination, non inclusive and foodcentric.
It depends on the destination. If I'm going somewhere warm/beachy, I like to relax and do nothing. I try to find the nicest hotel that my budget will allow. I stalk travel websites so when it's time for me to go somewhere, I have an idea of what to expect cost wise. I love traveling around Europe, but I'm not a hostel/throw-it-all-in-a-backpack-and-go kind of gal. Again, I try to find the nicest hotel my budget will allow. I prefer to walk around cities and explore them on my own vs. organized sightseeing. I guess I'd fit in the relaxed traveler category. I've never flown first class, but even if I could afford it, I'd rather spend that money on another day away or some shopping.

It depends on what we are doing, if it's a vacation for relaxation or sight seeing. If it's a relaxation type of vacation, I like all inclusive (but it has to be NICE) with a great pool and beach. I've never flown first class unless I've been bumped up to it, not worth the extra expense to me. Either way I need to be in a nice hotel. I would've done the hostel/backpacking thing when I was younger, but now I'd rather pay for a nicer hotel and be comfortable.
I don't think I've made it a secret on here - I love cruising! It's the perfect combo of hopping from place to place while having a luxurious home base. For our h-moon we spent a few days in Rome and then took a cruise of the Med. It was lots of historical sight seeing mixed with beaches and wine tasting. It was a-freakin-mazing.
When I was in college I studied abroad and did the hostel/bus tour/live simply traveling. That was awesome too for my age at the time. I wouldn't want to do that now though.
I guess we do private rooms in hostels, they surprisingly exist and are usually cheaper than hotels. Or we do b&bs if they are close to the same price.

Have any of y'all tried Air BnB? We used it in Costa Rica and stayed with the most awesome gay couple in San Jose. We had our own room with a bathroom shared with another bedroom that a Swiss couple was renting. They fixed us an amazing breakfast every morning, and even gave us a ride to a bus station on our last day with them. Then, we stayed with them on our way back through San Jose, and when hubby left his phone in a taxi cab, they drove 40 miles in the rain and paid a woman $20 to get it back and FedExed it to us. It was a great experience.

Let me preface this by saying that up until Andrew was born, DH and I frequently took separate vacations. Well, I'd vacation. He'd stay home in his boxers and play on his computer all day.
If it's just me, I like to backpack and travel simply. Since I'm married and 31, I usually spring for a private room and bath. That shit was fine when I was younger, but I've put that on the Murtaugh List. (Any HIMYM fans?) I don't necessarily need air conditioning, TV, or internet. I prefer a western toilet.
When DH and I travel, we usually stick to all-inclusives. He likes not having to make a big production about meals, activities, etc.

I love all inclusive style. We went to Punta Canta, Dominican Republic for our honeymoon and we loved it. We also enjoy cruises and feel we get the best bang for the buck. If you drink a lot that can be pricey but we normally just drink when we get to a port and not on the ship. The ships booze is wayyy overpriced.
The only real vacations DH and I have ever been on were when we were living in China and we traveled during the summer breaks. We lived out of backpacks, although we did stay in hotels rather than hostels (shared a room with our friend who came with us) and traveled by train. We only took planes when we had to.
Now with the kids, I like the idea of a resort--maybe a cruise.
It depends on where we go. I like to see the sights and eat lots of local food. But I love going to the beach and doing nothing too. Clean hotel, doesn't need to be fancy but I would say fairly decent. I read lots of reviews before I pick a hotel.
I've never done all-inclusive bc of all my dietary restrictions (kosher), it never seemed worth it.
We aren't first class all the way (unless the ILs are paying - then it's business class at least. They're very picky about their travel and we benefit from that), but we stay at fairly nice places - a lot of boutique hotels. A lot of times we go off season and stay at the really nice places for dirt cheap (go to Newport, RI in the winter!)
We like to go city to city. For example our last trip went: New York --> Jerusalem --> Tel Aviv --> Frankfurt --> Wurtzberg --> Nuremberg --> Munich ---> home. We took a train all over Germany,I like to see as much as possible. I'm not so big on "relaxing" beach vacations. I get sand in my butt.
We like to do a mix of adventure and relaxation. Lots of sightseeing and activities but we take a day to relax and sit by the pool or ocean. Sometimes you just need a layover too. When we went to Aus/NZ we stopped in Tahiti to relax bc the flight is a bear. Same thing with India/Nepal, we stopped in London to just take a break.
We do a mix of higher end hotels and mid range b and b type places. In europe if we are spending all day sightseeing we won't spend a fortune on a hotel but if we are going to a beach type place we will since there will be more time in the room.

On our honeymoon we put about 1200 miles on our rental car in a week. We are the type like that like to do something new each day. We can spend an hour or 2 on the beach, but then we need someplace to go.
Also, we stay in a lot of nice places because my parents let us trade their timeshare. We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo in Hawaii that was bigger than our apartment at home.

Our style in the past was to fly to another country with no plan and not much money. I loved traveling that way. Our "last hurrah" was 3 months backpacking in Indonesia for our honeymoon. With kids I think it will be awhile before we do that again, but I will say, I loved meeting the families who were staying in hostels and backpacking with their kids. Such a cool experience for the kids.
It depends entirely on the destination and who I'm traveling with. When I was younger, I was all about the hostel/backpack route. Loved it.
Now, if I'm traveling with friends, we still travel pretty simply (After more than a decade of work travel, I can make one carry-on last for two weeks), but will spring for a decent hotel (meaning clean, with a private bathroom). I try for small, local lodging (B&B, cabins, etc.) where appropriate, and try to avoid anything too touristy.
With DH, it tends more toward all-inclusive, boutique or at least full amenities travel. We travel really differently, but we both love doing it.
And erniebufflo - I so badly want to travel like Bourdain too, but there are things in this world I just will. not. eat.
Well my travel style has changed as I have gotten older. I backpacked around Europe for 6 months staying in hostels, I would never do that again. We stay in hotels, or camping in our tent trailer, but honestly most of our holidays is spent visiting family.
We are mostly all inclusive, we like beach vacations and just relaxing so we will try to find a good deal to save the most money. I have done the backpacking around Europe and Central America in college and I would love to travel there again. I think I would probably do a step up from hostels since we found a lot of cheap hotels in Central America. We don't have a big budget so usually it's trying to save where we can.
