In an office setting. This post brought to you by my trashy co-workers. I've been noticing a lot of shirts with lace cut outs, with a tank underneath, but still. Oh, and its usually a color. Not sure if that makes a difference.
IMO, only if it's the trim on a cami. As in, under a v-neck shirt that shows too much cleavage for the office. Or if it's the bottom hem of a cami and it's just sticking out under your regular shirt.
Lace cut-outs... ick. There's one girl here who wears them all the time. She's 28, but stuck in her 21 year old clubbing days. Her usual work outfits include leather skinny pants, hooker heels, and lace cut out shirts (usually with just a bra underneath).
Sometimes, I'll wear a lace skirt, but it's not, like, sheer. It's lace over a fabric of the same color. And it's a knee-length pencil skirt, so not exactly revealing. This might still be inappropriate. I am not known for my appropriate work attire. I'm the bubblehead who shows up and realizes her boobs are hanging out, then spends the rest of the day yanking up my neckline.
I am half asleep when I get dressed. No, make that 3/4s asleep. It doesn't always go well. Like today, for example. Today, I decided to wear yellow tights with grey metallic booties. It's a friggin' mess.
I think it can be. I think if before you decide to wear it out in public if it could run the risk of looking like lingerie you need to hang it up and not wear it to work.

What chirp said. Although I don't even know what a lace cutout is. I'm old.
Actually given my age I tread very carefully with lace. Unless you're a bride, to me it's a material for the relatively young or relatively old. I'm neither.

Only if it's a shell under a blazer or part of a skirt (with a liner). I don't think they really allow it here at all, their wardrobe guidelines are really specific here.

Here are the types of shirts that I've seen people wear to work... sometimes with a contrasting cami underneath, sometimes with just a bra.

I think it can be if done tastefully, such as a lined lace shell under a blazer or a lined lace skirt (knee length, imo). The ones Chirp posted are not okay for work. I think that particular trend needs to die already. I dislike the crochet-back shirts and sweaters. Immensely.
Chirp, those are hideous and not what I think of when I think of lace, LOL. My lace tops came from Banana Republic. I have a crochet-back dress that I wear...as a cover-up to the beach.
Yeah, those shirts aren't work appropriate... Nothing to do with the lace. Honestly when I think lace it's pretty far from that. Those are just... I don't know. To just wear a bra under it to the office makes me pearl clutch.
