These things suck! The braces aren't nearly as bad as the tongue trainers (sharp barbs they put on the back of my teeth to retrain my tongue position). Tell me this gets better?

I had metal braces as a kid and I don;'t recall them being that bad. The ceramic ones I had in my 20's were awful. I wore them for almost 2.5 years, and I never got used to them. The edges were so damn sharp, the inside of my lips were raw all the time.
Sorry, I hope it gets easier for you. It's defitniely worth it in the end!
Hehe, I thought this was about Invisalign. Those are like a diet plan too b/c it's such a PITA to eat anything (you have to take them out and blush & floss before putting them back in).
I've had damon braces for almost 10 months now, and it hasn't been so bad. My first couple of weeks were a major pain though! As things progressed, I saw lots of movement really fast and it's been so worth it!! I can't stop smiling now. The best decision I've ever made for myself. Period. It gets better, I promise! Hang in there!
I thought the same thing when I got mine a few years ago. Unfortunately I learned that milkshakes and smoothies helped the discomfort after adjustments, so there went that plan...

I have the Damon system with metal tongue trainers. Aesthetically, they don't look nearly as bad as I thought. I just have to learn how to talk and how to swallow with these tongue trainers. I'm also so skeeved out about food being in them that l brush right away. I can tell these will cut down on mindless snacking once I feel well enough to eat normally again because I won't want the hassle of brushing and flossing right away.
