If I don't meet the stupid mother this season I will be so, so mad.
Barney and Robin will be married in May. If Ted's supposed to meet The Mother that night at the train station, I don't get how the hell they're going to stretch that out for one more season without us meeting her, too.
Even though Ted had some closure on the issue of Robin in recent episodes, Thomas says the door is definitely not closed on that issue. “I don’t want to say how or when, but yeah,” he says, “it’s so built into the DNA of the show and, we’re heading toward this huge finish of this series. Whether sooner or later, there’s a big culminating ending coming in the near future of the show, of course, that dynamic has to be addressed again.”
MBC, that spoiler is so WTF that I can't even handle it.
I think the only way that they could draw out the mom until next season is to end the season with the wedding wrapping up and him going to the train station, then making it a to be continued thing where we maybe see the mother don't actually get to see more than a few seconds until September. I definitely wouldn't put it past them.

I just started watching it last year and am finally caught up. I really liked it the first couple of seasons, but now it's just annoying but I feel so vested that I can't stop watching until we meet the mother.

This is where we are. We're practically hate-watching at this point. I'm ready to ditch until midway next season but haven't pulled the trigger quite yet.
DH and I actually sat down and did the math one night...because we're so irritated at not meeting the mother, we weren't sure if it was worth continuing to watch the show.
I don't remember everything, but basically what we figured out was based on the year he's telling the story, and how old the daughter is, The Mother gets pregnant in early 2014. So, unless they're spinning it as a whole "we met as a one night stand, she got pregnant, and I really hate her", they have to meet and fall in love soon...otherwise the math doesn't work.

And yes, we're total dorks.
I did the same thing. I'm thinking there's two possible scenarios here:
1. He meets The Mother at the end of this season, we spend Season 9 getting to know her as Ted gets to know her too, they get engaged or married in the series finale in 2014. They get pregnant right away, because we know he has a baby girl in 2015 because they watch Star Wars with the guys.
2. They spend season 9 dicking us around some more before finally having him meet The Mother in the series finale in 2014, then they get married/pregnant immediately and just learn to love each other. (Ugh.)

I think we will meet her in May, we will learn about her next season. I think it will end with giving birth to the daughter since that's when she becomes "the mother" and not just ted's wife. It will be sappy and how it was really about how he didn't know her as the kids' mom until that moment.

I do love this show but I think this is a good time to end it. I really hope we meet the mother this season and get to know her next season as other people have mentioned. If that spoiler goes the way it's making it sound, NOT COOL. It took me a while to NOT want them together. If they do end up together, I'll be pissed. I want it to be someone totally new, not anyone from his past (though I did like Victoria, I kinda hoped for a while it was her).
Yup, I agree....I really hope they tease the mother this finale, and then we spend season 9 getting to know her. I am going to be really mad if they just make us wait.
And ditto others...I am over the whole Ted/Robin thing. I hate that they're even using that as a hook...just let Barney and Robin be happy!
I know there are a lot of haters out there, but I love this show, so I'm glad it will be back for 1 more year.
Now, for something so pathetic that I'm afraid to type it: since I'm about the same age as the characters on the show, a lot of the life changes that the HIMYM gang have gone through has been mirrored in our group of friends over the same time frame (weddings, broken engagements, frat boy behavior that should have ended long ago, first kids, etc.) I refuse to think that it can't be funny after having kids, because--well, I have a kid and life is still damn funny.
I just wish they didn't have to do 24 episodes* per season. The episodes that have a specific point are still pretty good (I liked Barney's proposal and the one where Robin's dad comes into town). The "filler" episodes are the ones that suck (the one with Marshall and Lily's housewarming party on Long Island, with Martin Short in a beekeeper suit on fire, was terrible). If they could cut it back to maybe 12 episodes per season, I'd gladly go a couple weeks in between episodes just to be able to see a better episode.
* re: 24 episodes/season ... some people online have theorized that Season 9 will be sort of like the show "24," where the entire season takes place on the wedding day but each half hour is filmed in real time.
