DH just got me a Polar FT4 - used it last night and love it. I did a lot of research. My needs are basic - using it for indoor cardio workouts so I can quickly check my HR to see that I'm in the zone. After you set it up with sex/age/weight/height, it sets a range for you and you can see when you're in range along with the real BPM. It also tracks data and stores it showing average HR, how long you were 'in the zone', calories burned, etc on the watch. You can get an extra part ($70is I think) to sync with your computer.
FYI - he got me the gray one which I thought was mens and is, but the only difference is the watch band is 1/4 inch thinner (width) and longer on the men's v womens (pink). The face of the watch is exactly the same and you can set your sex M/F on the gray one. (Bonus - gray one is around $10 less than pink if you like the color better! - on Amazon around $65)
