Just when you think that you have heard it all, along comes an excuse that completely boggles the mind.
Tomorrow, a dog, name unknown, will be put to death at an overcrowded animal control in Jackson, Tenn., after his owner surrendered him there because he believes that his dog is "gay."
According to the prior owner, the dog was seen "hunched over," another male dog, therefore, in this owner's mind, the dog must be gay.
The former owner apparently does not know that "hunched over, aka humping behavior" is typically a sign of dominance in dogs, rather than something to signify a dog's sexual orientation.
But, on the other hand, even if it did indicate sexual orientation, does it warrant turning one's dog over to an extremely crowded, sadly "high kill," animal control facility?
I am completely WTF that it is legal for a shelter to take in a perfectly healthy dog and put it down without trying to adopt it out ?
This. I know here in Portland I'm spoiled because we have an amazing humane society that often takes in out of state and difficult to adopt animals. I just can't believe this happens.
It's a high-kill shelter. It's TN. Strays run rampant due to ignorance. They don't call 'em hillbillies for nothing.
This. When I lived in Memphis the news did a story about how Memphis shelters had put down 14,000+ dogs that year. The overall mentality about dogs was sickening.
Jackson is pretty redneck. I bought a Taking Charge Of Your Fertility book there and the woman behind the counter asked me if I was married before buying the book.
It's full of religious Southern yahoos. Sorry, but it's true. And some nice, more refined peeps, too. It's not a dump, it's a nice city, but it's... country. lol.
Of course, but I don't really consider those people hillbillies When I think of hillbillies, I think of missing teeth and overalls lol.
