Yesterday morning I noticed the dog had some poo stuck to her tail/butt, so I grabbed some paper towels so I could grab it before she sat on any furniture.
This dog is TERRIFIED of paper towels, if she sees you with one in your hand coming for her, she'll hide from you. She'll also tuck her tail and pretty much glue it to her stomach so you can't lift it up.
So I get her on the floor and clean her up. So she spends the next half hour not letting me pet her and when I tried, she'd sink lower and lower to the floor. You'd swear I beat her instead of harmlessly cleaning her up with a paper towel.
She eventually came over to me on the couch and jumped up to lay with me, but not before making it known she was upset with me.
She'll spend the next few days running from me when I tear off another paper towel.
Of ALL the things to be scared of she chooses the one that helps her the most. Thunder, I understand. Loud noises, I understand.
But I've never done anything mean to her/hurtful to her with one before? I don't know where she picked up this immense fear.
Lucy doesn't like feet. If you try to pet her with your foot when she's laying on the ground she will launch herself across the room. Malcolm is afraid of nothing, he's my tough little guy.
I have learned never to take it off of him. If you do, it's usually a several day process of chasing him around the house with it, because as soon as he sees it he will run away.

At least he doesn't mind it while it's on. That's good. Has he always been scared of it?
When I take my dog's collar off, she acts like she has never seen it before and needs to sniff every inch/chew on it.

Yeah, he does the sniffing/chewing thing too.
As near as I can remember, he's always been afraid of it. We've gone through several different types and fits because I thought maybe it was uncomfortable for him, but nope. He's just afraid of collars.
Our Springer is afraid of anything that is long and stick-like. If you're carrying a broom, ruler, etc., she takes off upstairs to her bed. It makes me sad because she's a rescue and it makes me think that someone must have hurt her with something like that before. We've had her for 3 years and it's still something she's scared of.
The Maltese mix is afraid of storms and that's pretty much it.

The toaster. We don't keep it on the counter so every morning when we pull it out from the cabinet, she runs downstairs and will stay there until she sees us put it away. No idea why. Wind. If she hears the wind howling, she runs to our bedroom and hides under the bed. Again, no idea. Obviously she's afraid of the vacuum but does pretty well with thunder. She's a very quirky dog.
Nia is not afraid of the vacuum exactly, but she runs after it and tries to attack it and scolds me the entire time it is on. It becomes somewhat of a production, because Oberon -our smart dog - is right behind her, nipping at her feet and telling her to chill the fuck out. It's loud.
My big, 130 lb lab rott mix is TERRIFIED of doorways and tile. He's also scared of wood floors and anything shiny. The only doorways he'll go though is our bedroom door and the front door, but he'll run through both like he's being attacked.
We've had him since he was 6 weeks old, so I have no idea why he's like this.
I forgot. Plastic bags. Like the ones I take on our walks for dog poop pick up. If I have a bag in my hand when I'm putting her leash on, she freaks out. Also, snow. If it's snowed over night and we take her out in the morning to use the bathroom, she looks at us like it's our fault and refuses to go. H has to shovel her a spot on the lawn to use. She's a special kind of special.
Rox is scared of a lot, some rationally and some irrationally.
Rationally she is afraid of strangers coming into the home and most/all men (we think she was abused by a man in the past). She is also scared of cars driving toward her (like she's on the sidewalk on a walk and they're coming down the road) and people riding bikes.
More irrationally she is scared of umbrellas, people walking to their cars in their driveways, the plants in our living room, our built-in bookshelves downstairs, and rain (she won't run around outside if it's raining or the ground is a little soggy. She'll tiptoe around, pee, then come back inside).
ETA: But she is a champ during loud storms and thunder, which many dogs ARE afraid of. She's weird sometimes.
Oh and she's terrified of the hair dryer, even if I'm using it on me and it's not near her.
The mirror in our bedroom. MH just hung it over the dresser and she sits on the bed and stares at herself. If I try to move her she growls and runs away.
My parents had a horse that had been beaten. She was a wonderful horse and great to ride but if you were on her you absolutely did not raise your hand - like to wave at someone ---or tuck your hair behind your ear or she would bolt. We had a big stand of pine trees, when she would bolt she'd tear right through the pines and it hurt. She hoped you would fall off as she raced through them.
DDs yorkie isn't afraid of anything. She rules the world, all of it. Get used to it. DDs French bulldog is hilarious 'cause just about anything is suspicious to him. Paper on the floor? You are required to sneak up on it and it can take several "sneaks" to really get it and put it out of it's misery.
My dog doesn't like laundry baskets. If you are carrying one she is freaking out. Also when we have takeout pizza she barks a ton at the pizza box and is fearful when we open it to get a slice. Weirdo.
Water bottles. Metal door frame. Manhole covers. Water. Rain. No wonder she sleeps all the time. She has to escape from the terrifying world around her.
I forgot, Lucy our bulldog also gets all up in arms when anything new comes into the house or if something is moved and she doesn't remember it from its old spot. Box delivered? It must be growled at until its been sufficiently inspected. Usually I try to bring the offending object to her level for inspection. When she notices the ceiling fan for the first time, we just had to put up with the noise for an hour until she realized it wasn't up to any shenanigans.
