You work in the human/social services field. You weren't in on Friday due to being sick (although there was no sign of said illness on Thursday), and as a result, weren't able to do the few things that set up your schedule for the following week. Doing those things on Monday would throw your entire week off balance and would mess up your client hours, not to mention would result in you not meeting with all your clients that week (most likely). These tasks require about 15 minutes total time.
Your office is 15 minutes from your home. It is open 24/7. You are a non-exempt employee and are meant to work a strict 40-hour work week.
Would you go in and do those few tasks? What would be your reasoning? Why or why not?
Will probably DD down the road so please do not quote.
If the tasks would only take about 15 minutes total, can you just go in a littler earlier on Monday morning to complete them? I would probably not find it worth my time to drive there, do 15 minutes worth of work and then drive back home.
I know you don't understand how 15 minutes of tasks could derail my workweek, but trust me, if you knew where I work, you'd understand.
For my own reasons, I can't divulge more information about that, but I'm asking you to take it on faith. Suffice it to say that this agency is a 24/7 agency wherein the clients make their appointments, largely during the weekends, and if I don't do the task that enables them to make those appointments, I likely won't be able to meet with them during the coming week. I couldn't do that task on Friday as I was sick, and so doing it on Saturday was pretty much my only option.
FTR, I did go in and do the tasks - I'm just anxious about having done that due to the fact that I'm non-exempt and am supposed to only work 40 hours a week. I'm not going to timecard those minutes that I was there and for all intents and purposes, I *wasn't* there.

Being salaried, the "strictly 40 hrs/wk" thing does not compute. Basically, it sounds like you broke the rules but out of good conscious before you wanted to increase productivity for next week. Even if someone finds out, seems like the wouldn't make a big deal out it??
Can you go home 15 min early one day next week to make up for it if you are worried about the >40? I think as a one-time-only rule-bending this is a pretty mild situation.
I take it non-exempt means you're NOT salaried? Is there any way that you can take a shorter lunch or something one day to lose those 15 minutes sometime later this week?
If it's that big of a deal, can't you just go in for the 15 minutes and not record it on your time sheet? Incorporate the drive with other errands and just stop in to do the 15 minutes of work.
I guess it's hard for me to understand, because my job is unfortunately very accessible from a laptop and it's expected that I always work from home, even on my deathbed.
