Congratulations! I think painting before you get in is a great idea. We did it and we would never have gotten to the paint if there had already been furniture that needed to be moved. It made our new house feel much more like a home.

Yes, paint. If you have a finished garage, slap a coat of paint on those walls too. I would seriously recommend re-doing any floors that need done. I was trying to be frugal and wait a few years with my carpets when I bought. Now, it's going to.be a pain in the *ss to get them done. That's my biggest regret. Also, do a walk through and look under any area or throw rugs. I did mine the night before closing and was horrified at the state of the carpet in a few rooms.
