It's boring. Old Mesilla is nice, but most people end up going to White Sands. Food is AH-mazing, hiking the Organs is a local favorite.
Carlsbad has the Caverns. And they aren't near Carlsbad at all I'd take the guided Lantern tour through left hand tunnel. The Flumes are nice to see, especially at night. If you need anything while your in either town, let me know. My mom will take you in while you're in LC and treat you like her own.

My BFF is coming to visit at the end of March and we were considering renting a Harley (she rides, I cling to her back) and taking a little trip down to see White Sands and probably spend the night in LC. If we can get good food and wine there, we are happy.
See the enchanted forest post. I am zoidberg, I had to make a new name to post the photos from my laptop because I forgot my password.
Ah! That makes so much more sense now. LOL.
Beautiful pics.
When I went to Luray Caverns a number of years ago, some of the stalactites and stalagmites had me and my friends in stitches. I was convinced whoever penned the slogan, "Virginia is for Lovers" was inspired by Luray.

Let me know when you have a set date and I'll get you some recs. there are tons of wineries!
Probably because our Mexican food is 10x better than yours and you guys were jealousE!
Hah! I don't know how that could be; I was 5 miles from Mexico by the way the crow flies!
But really, people would complain that it was dry, desolate and boring. I'm not really sure how that is any different from southern Arizona.
We were 30 min from Mexico but we also have Hatch, so fresh green chile! I can tell the difference between northern NM Mexican, southern NM, and AZ. Weird, I know.

Not weird at all, I can tell the difference between the different areas of Arizona. Be glad you don't have that hell hole know as Phoenix.
I do love those green chiles so much. And you have the hot air balloon festival which is soooo awesome.
