On the 2013 resolution list is to volunteer more... I've previously volunteered at the Pine Street Inn, which I enjoyed. When I lived in NC a few years ago I did Big Brother, Big Sister, which was also nice but difficult once I changed jobs.
What organizations are you involved in?
I'm looking for something accessible to the T... I live in Brookline.
No but that is perfect thank you! I was just google searching random places, with no real focus, b/c I could do anything. I just want to do something and not continue to just talk about doing it
You could also go to meetup.com. They have a few different volunteer groups and they email you whenever a new event is posted. It's really interesting because it is all kinds of events at different days and times. So, you can always find something coming up. HTH!
I'm in Brookline, too I volunteer with Christmas in the City (seasonal, obviously) and the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (this is getting to be their busy time here in Boston since the Walk is in May). I am on the email list for volunteer jobs at Planned Parenthood, but lately my availability doesn't match up, sadly (I have hard hours to work around since I stay home with the kids).
I know the Brookline Food Pantry can always use help, too.
I don't post here much but actually work for Dana Farber and have volunteered for the Jimmy Fund off and on for years. They have over 200 events (big ones being Marathon, Walk).

Have you looked into birthday wishes? its a group that provides birthday party for homeless kids. they are always looking for people to help. www.birthdaywishes.org
I know the woman who started Birthday Wishes. It's a very neat organization.
I've also volunteered for the Jimmy Fund, specifically their golf outings.
If you're interested in working with kids I could PM you the name of the school I used to work at (not the crazy one, the one before it!). They have a tutoring program and can also use people to help with other things.
Reviving this old topic but thought that I'd highlight this article since so many of you recommended the organization Birthday Wishes... the new Shake Shack opening tomorrow "Also particular to this first MA location is a partnership with local non-profit Birthday Wishes, which creates birthday parties for homeless children and which will receive five percent of all Lobstah Shell concrete sales."
