He couldn't breath yesterday, and they discovered he has an infection in his lungs. Optimistically, the doctors have given him 3 weeks if the antibiotics work.
We spent the morning at the hospital, and are planning on going back later. Dh has been outside mindlessly doing yard work for hours. He's doing ok now, but has had a really hard time since his dad was diagnosed. (He has ALS and has lost nearly all of his mobility since November.) MIL is very concerned about DH--she saw how he fell apart after is mom died, and is afraid of him hitting that wall again.

Oh no. How sad.
Have you guys considered Hospice? They have great pain management available to them, as well as bereavement support that does not end when your FIL passes. Might be something to consider.
