I swear, I'm asking for a friend! I have a 2 y.o. and TTC #2 is a bit of a ways away.
I have a friend that is TTC #1, and I recommended TCOYF to her. She's noticed that she'll O around CD10/11, and then start spotting at 7/8/9dpo...and finally get AF around 10/11dpo. According to the book (she said) that could mean low Progesterone and she's thinking abotu starting a cream.
Her OB told her to hold off, temp/chart for a few more months, and then they will revisit it. She's just concerned b/c she's spotted at 7/8/9dpo for several months now (always had it, but never knew it was during those days) and she wants to be proactive, but isn't sure.

That's pretty similar to me and I have a short LP. Spotting by 7 or 8dpo and AF arrives at 9 or 10 dpo.
She can try B6 to lengthen it. That didn't work for me. I'm using progesterone suppositories right after I O (starting this month). I'm starting Clomid next month, but I've been TTC for 6+ months with a short LP and I had a short LP before DD as well that luckily B6 and progesterone helped after having two miscarriages.
I went and saw my OB after 6 months of charting (this time). She could ask for an RE referral. I personally do not feel comfortable using a cream or something without my OB prescribing it or knowing about it.

I understand why her doctor wants her to chart for a few more months just so they can see for sure, BUT since its been 10 months overall they could start doing some simple stuff. They could run some simple bloodwork while she charts for the next couple months. Like a 7dpo progesterone test (also called CD21, but since she has short cycles it would really be a different day). And CD3 bloodwork. And she could start progesterone suppositories after she O, but that would throw off her charts so that's why some doctors wait. The suppositories aren't going to hurt her.

I did have good luck with B6, 100mg daily. I added about 3 days to my LP the first month, and jury's still out on this one but I did at least O a day earlier than I was.
10 months with no luck to me seems like her doctor should be open to at least running some tests, though.
