At about 9:30 this morning, I put the following in our office kitchen:
Two open bags of tortilla chips One open box of crackers One open bag of pretzels One plastic container with homemade guacamole One plastic container wtih homemade salsa One open container of baba ghanoush One open container of French onion dip
There was no indication of who brought all of this. I left no sign.
This happens in my office all the time. There are a few people who I know don't wash their hands in the bathroom and for that reason alone I never eat homemade kitchen food.
ETA I am sure you wash your hands but they don't know that it is from you and not Creepy Cathy with the cat hoarding issue. Lol.

i made cupcakes for a coworker's birthday, labelled them with a sign, "happy birthday, [insert her name here]" and within minutes, people were asking me when they could eat the cupcakes.
um, when my coworker says so. they're FOR HER. lol
At least they asked!
I'm sure the dirty vultures here would've descended and destroyed.
My boss jokes that we don't need to take training on "active shooters" (required at our company), because the easiest way to kill us off is to leave poisoned food in the kitchen. No one ever questions what it is or where it's from.
Man, not having random office foods is one of the bummer parts of staying at home. I wish someone would leave a bowl of guac in my living room. I'd eat, sans sign.

It always amazes me. I used to teach and there would be random stuff in the teacher's lounge that came from who knows where. It would all be eaten. Who knows if it came from a staff member or parent. No thanks.

Around Christmas time someone left bagels and cream cheese out in the morning. I didn't realize they were still there the next morning. Someone went walking by eating a bagel with cream cheese and I realized that they were eating the stuff from the day before. When I told him they were a day old and had been sitting out overnight, he continued to eat away.
If it's free, many people don't care where it came from or how old it is.
I worked in an office at the university here for a while before I started teaching. Every once in a while there'd be a party or a luncheon or something that was catered. People would literally come in with ZIPLOCK BAGS to pack up stuff for dinner/husbands/apocalypse/etc.

My boss does this. When our office caters something, it's university policy to throw everything out that is left over. My boss will load up everything in ziplock bags at the end of the event before the caterers throw it away. I mean, she takes EVERYTHING, including the garnishes on the table. I'm all about not wasting food... but she throws it all in our office fridge and it ends up going bad anyway because someone can only eat so many carrots.

We did that at the last place I worked at BUT it was when we had breakfast events at this local big conference center/venue.
They laid out the most beautiful looking fruit and danish/bagels, and when the event was over they had to throw it out. We would show up with a ton of gallon sized baggies and take everything left on the buffet and take it back to the office or stop at some of our sister agencies and leave them some treats. There were times when we left with 20 bags of stuff. It would have been sinful to just throw them out.

It is all gone now.
I never ate stuff that was brought in at the other law office because one of the attorneys was a notorious finger licking double dipper.
He also used to drink coffee from a community (*gag*) cup and instead of washing it, he'd just give it a swirl of cold water and put it back in the cupboard.
But I guess that was better than the birdwatcher who would drink hot cocoa and leave her cup "soaking" in the sink for days.
I won't eat food in our community kitchen anymore.
Bc one day there was a big cake and all kinds of sweets and as I was taking some, a woman said she brought them in. I asked her why and she said they were from the funeral home from a wake the day before and she didn't want them to go to waste.
OMG! You just helped me stop eating office food.
I have no issue w/ funeral cake from someone I don't know.
there is a random pound cake in one of the conference rooms. I'm like 3 seconds away from getting a slice. Also, there is a line wrapped around our courtyard today because another department is giving away free donuts and hot chocolate. we're vultures up in here.
It's funny, I have a free apple sitting out and no one is taking it. I'm not in an apple mood and didn't want it to go to waste.
At my work, if it's out on the counter, it's pretty much fair game. And even if it's in your labled cubby in the fridge, it's fair game for the owner. Ha! He was using my butter the other day and was all, "Have [my manager] get you more butter when she goes to the store." He uses the butter more than I do. lol

When I worked at the hospital drug reps would come in two days a week with a ton of food for the doctors and staff. On Fridays one woman would always take everything home no matter how long it had sat out. Evidently KFC was something she couldn't resist, because on a Wednesday she cleaned the fridge out and took everything home. The next day the entire staff was waiting for leftovers for lunch, only to find the fridge empty! Management had to talk to the woman and tell her to keep her hands off the KFC, dammit!!! I would be so embarrassed to basically get caught stealing something as bad as KFC.
I am amazed by this at my work all the time. Also, it's impressive how quickly the food disappears. I will take wrapped candy or food that I can tell is from a caterer on our campus. I would not take homemade food.
We get caterers in for a lot of meetings and there are a few staff members here who will make sure they don't organise lunch those days because there will be leftovers. To the point of waiting until 14.30 to eat sandwiches that have sat in an overheated meeting room since for 3 hours. And they'll pack themselves some more for dinner. Blergh.
I'll admit really enjoying their disappointment when there isn't anything left.
