We just found out that dh hasn't had car insurance since Fucking October!!! Thanks to an error by AllState.
He's been on the phone with agents and customer service for days now and I'm furious as to why it is taking so long to get him back on.
Its such a mess.
Because he hasn't been on their plan he may be on the high risk list which would make it difficult to get a good rate. They won't put him back on because there is a lapse and need to try to figure out what happened.
dh wants to be sure that this doesn't penalize him and they take care of it. But I'm like get on insurance. My insurance is aware of it and he's qualified, we plan to call tonight to get see about getting it switched but still....he wants to be sure Allstate fixes the problem so this doesn't become a problem in the future.
Allstate sent a letter saying they are transferring coverage to a different local company so he needed to call to confirm he still wanted coverage. He did. He used to have it debited from his account...they said that would stop and he would get paper statements. Those never came. Tada, no insurance discovery.
So now we are in a disagreement on if waiting another 48 hours is worth the risk on getting it resolved through his insurance or if we say fu Allstate and have him transfer to my insurance agent.
I'm team "switch now because what if?" And he wants to wait because who is to say that they wont persue this issue further if we tell them he switched. i asked then couldnt you ask if they would agree to cover you retro between now and the time they resolve the issue? he says there is no guarantee what a customer insurance agent says is what will actually happen and so he just rather take the chance and wait.
I think I'm winning because he is on the phone with my insurance.

Tell him to ask for a manager right off the bat and insist on it. Get the manager's name, and when he calls again, tell him to ask for that manager directly. Be insistent and forceful!
If you have been making payment where was the money going?
that is such crap!
We hadn't. Months went by with out getting any bill to pay because dh thought he was still paying through automatic debit. So it slipped DH's mind..yes it's partly his fault...he told me he thought it was still being debited out of our account. It wasn't. The paper bill discovery came when dh talked to a rep about if he called to confirm he still wanted coverage.

Man this is such a pain in the ass!!!
this happened to US with Allstate, too, last fall. I was LIVID. We switched insurance, after they CALLED me at work on a Friday to tell me we had been without coverage, on all three vehicles, for six or seven weeks.
Aha!!!
I just told dh this and he laughed..."at least you got a call..."
He's insured now though my insurance. I got a "slight discount too because he was added."
That is really NOT good and if he can get on your insurance without any penalty for lapse in coverage, I would JUMP on that.
Lapses in coverage result in HUGE rate increases, and the longer you can prove coverage, the better rate you can get.
I used to work for Allstate and never heard of them transferring coverage to another company. For homeowners, maaaaybe, but not for auto insurance. That is insane.

Thank you!!!
his car is old so the new rate is good. Sigh of relief!
omg!! Get this! Dh just said that when he called on Sunday they asked..."didn't you get the letter re: the transfer.?" He said "yes, don't you have a record on your database that I called to say yes please keep me on the insurance?" That person said no.... But today he asked again and they said....." Oh yes, we see an entry on 10/19 saying you wanted to continue coverage...."
Why would have have two separate insurance companies anyway? What a PITA.
I know....but we both had our agents since we were 16 so we had a long good standing. Plus, when he got the letter we looked into having him go to mine but he was quoted a cheaper rate.
