Do you and your SO do anything special? Any plans for this year?
We normally go out to dinner, but I think this year we'll plan to stay in, maybe break out the fondue pot instead. Also, I still have last years card that I never gave him. Score! No shopping.
We don't "celebrate" Valentine's day. I say it in quotes because we DO go out on Valentines Day though. Every year our local SPCA has an event where they do appetizers, wine and beer and desserts on Valentines day that we attend. It was one of our first dates and it is a lot of fun (unlimited wine and sugar? yes please) and the ticket sales go directly to the shelter. You get to play with puppies and view the other animals for adoption as well.
It's our wedding anniversary (Nine years!), so we try to do something special. This year, thanks to our emergency plumbing repair and my semi-urgent car repair, we are broke and unable to do anything. I might make DH a card and sneak into his work stuff.
We'll do something more the weekend after Valentine's day.
He's got a job interview on the 13th, so we may have more than just our anniversary to celebrate :-)
I'm pretty sure we won't be doing anything, but we've never been big on Valentine's Day even before all this. We'd exchange cards and have a nicer-than-usual dinner at home. Back when we were dating, our anniversary was Feb 26th, so we preferred to put more effort into that celebration.
We're going out to dinner at a place near our house (which isn't all that different from what we normally do). We'll exchange cards and possibly something small like chocolates. That's it.
I think this will be the last year we actually celebrate it beyond exchanging cards. We're both hungover from Christmas and our respective birthdays.
Valentine's day is usually hit or miss with us - one year I got a bracelet, pink converse, and godiva chocolates - another year, we didn't even do cards.
This year I have been leaving daily notes/treats for V-day as surprises in the morning (a little snack bag of nuts with a note that says "I'm nuts about you" - that kind of thing). On actual V-day I'm going to go to his track attack running class that he loves and that I know he wont' want to miss but that he'll feel guilty going to if I am home alone. I like the fondue idea - so I might steal that for after the class.
He works on the actual day, and we have a birthday party to attend the following evening. I'm pretty sure there won't be any big deal. I think he got me flowers last year, which was sweet, albeit totally unnecessary.
aimee's post above makes me want fondue. Not necessarily for Valentine's Day. Just for funsies.

H doesn't like "Hallmark Holidays", or any holiday that doesn't involve fireworks, so we won't do anything. I used to put something sweet together for him (because I like giving gifts), but after years of it not being appreciated or remotely reciprocated, I stopped. I will probably do something cute for DS (heart shaped cookies or something), and I might buy myself some flowers for fun... H will get nothing.

I don't think we have anything special planned, but I'm going to come home with vanilla ice cream and root beer and tell him he floats my boat, LOL! Then we'll have root beer floats for dessert!
I saw it on a blog and I thought it would be corny and sweet and stupid and he would love it.

We went out to dinner last year, and gave each other cards.
This year we're going to watch a movie "together" (aka skype and watch a movie at the same time) and bought each other little gifts and a card. He's sappy and I love giving gifts, so it all works out.
We don't ever really do anything special for Valentine's Day. Usually, DH will make a special dinner, and last year he sent me flowers at work, but that's about it.
This year, I don't think we're doing anything on the actual day, but the next night we're going to The Walking Dead Live (with a bunch of actors from the show) in Kansas City and staying in a fancy hotel for the weekend.
We don't do anything for Valentine's Day. In fact I am planning on going to Zumba with my coworker. She thought I was crazy. Might "celebrate" the following week by going to a flight night at a local restaurant.
We usually go out to eat and exchange cards and that's it. We've found that Valentines day people always go out after 6 pm. So we eat at a random time. Like 2 or 3 pm. There are no crowds, DS is still at my mom's so no additional child care is needed, and the food is normal price because most restaurants don't switch to the ultra-special Valentine's day menu until dinner. Especially on week days.
H actually has the day off surprise~~ no pay until the next week. So I am making heart shaped pancakes for breakie!! Heart shaped red velvet cupcakes, and maybe a nice movie or something somewhat romantic.
We are doing Bingo Next week for Vday, and that is something we both love to do.. so nothing fireworkish, but a little fun for 2 old people that need to recconnect on a budget.. lol ya we put bingo in our budget for next week.
I may hijack the bingo hall for 5 mins if they let me to let him know that I do love him and he is my jackpot. That may get something romantic going. ( a girl could only wish)
I bought my DH and Ipad a few weeks ago, for Valentine's Day. It was an excuse to buy him one. I totally fail at presents and gave it to him early. So I'm putting a bow in it and regifting. We don't normally do big gifts for Vday but he really wanted an Ipad and this was the excuse for it that I found to buy him one.
Since I gave it to him early . I think I might try and make him some heart shaped peppermint bark. I have all the materials for it and it's his favorite.

I usually put a little more effort into dinner and we do cards. It's a throw away for us though as my birthday is 2 days before.
This year we have a fun filled day full of neurology appointments and GI appointments for DD (hopefully we'll be able to schedule her feeding tube surgery). Then getting our taxes prepared. Oh and then H has class.
