Yes and I loved it. I'm going back in my third trimester to help get me ready for the labour. Best hour nap I would get all week
I went because I had fibroids that were going to be removed. But between diagnosis and my surgery time I was having really bad lower back pain that massage and chiro couldn't help (my normal go tos), it would relieve the pain for at least a few days so I could sleep and function so I was going once a week. It was pricey but worth every penny. I can't say how much it helped with the surgery or recovery, but that was much easier then I was expecting based on what I'd heard from others. So either I was really lucky or it made a difference, which is why I'm going back before I give birth - if it helps Yay! If not, at least I won't wonder if it would have been better with it
I got a recommendation from a coworker who felt the accupuncture before/after ankle surgery helped her heal quicker then her physical therapist was expecting.

Yes, I love it. I think it helps and it is very relaxing. I go for anxiety and IBS and feel that it has helped me. My mom and dad have both gone for their knees and have liked the results they have had.

Well, they gave me Percocet last night, which made me sleepy and took the edge off, but it wore off after 4 hours and I was up the rest of the night off and on.
I don't think that's so much a long-term option since it's addictive and I don't handle opiates that well. (I get super groggy and I almost threw up last night).
I asked about wrapping and they said that they don't do that because it can lead to pneumonia since your lungs can't expand as well, but I'll see if taping is any different at my appointment today.

AutumnRose25 - I don't even care if my insurance will cover it at this point. I just want some relief.
I don't know if this is true or not, but she also said that women who are pregnant and get acupuncture tend to deliver more close to their delivery date than other women.
Probably a marketing tool, but if there is any truth to that I'm on board there too.
A friend of mine SWEARS that accupuncture triggered her labour - after the appointment she scheduled specifically for that reason. I think she went twice? She made a third appointment but the accupunturist (I never know what to call them) told her "you won't be keeping this one" and she started labour that night.
She may have been lucky but I agree with her, it didn't seem to hurt so why not?
I maxed out my insurance and kept going because it was definitely worth the money for the relief it provided. I hope it works for you too.
I just started. I have my third appt on Friday. I have a lower back condition called spondylolisthesis, & I'm trying acupuncture as an alternative to spinal fusion surgery. I was surprised that the needles went everywhere except my back (feet, hands, leg, ears, scalp!) but it hasn't hurt at all. My back pain hasn't necessarily gotten better, but I'm hoping with a few more sessions it may. Good luck-I hope you get some relief soon.
If it does hurt/feel uncomfortable when a needle goes in, say something. It didn't happen often but my doctor said sometimes they get too close to a nerve ending. She would just move the needle slightly and it wouldn't hurt any more.
I'm a huge fan of mixing modern medicine with the "crunchy" treatments. I went for surgery vs attempting to heal my fibroids naturally, but accupuncture, yoga and chiro all have a place for me in maintaining my health/feeling good. I think they work best together.

Ice really helps a lot.
I don't know the back story, but it sounds like you're pregnant and dislocated or cracked a rib? I am in the exact same boat as you, but about a week ahead of you.
I'm 33 weeks and dislocated a floating rib about three weeks ago, from coughing. I've done it before, and took pain meds, but obviously we're in a different position this time.
I iced and took Tylenol (which really didn't help) and just waited it out. A few days after the original injury, I coughed and heard it pop back into place. It was excruciating, and I didn't move for about three hours. Day by day, though, it got better. That was a week and a half ago, and I'm fine now.
I have done acupuncture, for different reasons, and it helped a lot. I have no idea if it would help your rib.
The biggest reason I'm a fan is we switched our aging cat to holistic care and I saw him respond to homeopaths better than the prescribed medications he was on. No room in him to have a placebo effect - he doesn't know the difference between what I'm giving him.
it was a desperate move after yet another emergency vet trip and made me rethink my own care.

sugarbear - Yes, I'm also 33 weeks and the rib pain has been getting progressively worse over the past 7 or 8 weeks. Over the weekend it escalated due to a bad cough. They do think I've cracked the rib, but since it's taken time getting to this point, there is also inflammation of tissue involved.
It suuuucks. I'm an (annoyingly?) positive person but this is kicking my ass.
I have had it for many reasons, and I'm a believer. I also think you should really try to ins a chiropractor that does Webster technique (for pg people, and no cracking!). There's a chance that you are simply out of alignment. At any rate, both are perfectly safe and it can't hurt right?
I really hope you find some relief from this.
I'm googling this right now. Forgot to last night.

No seriously, I've been in a lot of pain in my life and this most recent rib issue has been some of the worst.
I had acupuncture for sciatica, before I ended up having the disc fragment surgically removed. The acupuncture was super helpful for awhile, but eventually it couldn't touch the pain.
Are they suggesting it for the inflammation? It certainly can't hurt.
I'm sorry I'm so glad mine resolved itself, but it was a miserable couple of weeks. Now I'm back to just having sciatica.
