Would you post bail if one of your kids got arrested?
ME: I would like to say no I would make them stay overnight in jail and learn their lesson but I know I would be weak and I would totally bail them out. But I would make them pay me back and they would be in some serious shit with me.
It would depend on the offense. I probably would let them sit overnight, just to make sure the point got across. But it would be discussed well in advance so they would all know what the consequences of their actions are.
I agree with speckled, but lean towards yes (especially for a first offense or where I had genuine doubt about their culpability. A kid with a history of domestic violence in there for attacking a family member? No.)

We each got one get out of jail free card. Mine was used when I got arrested on the local military base on Thanksgiving for having an open container in my car (my friend forgot a bottle of schnapps in my glove compartment) and minor in possession of alcohol.
I actually got a second one when I was arrested for curfew violation, because it was such bullshit, my mother came to the station to raise hell. I would have been happier spending the night in jail. Gah.
All that to say, yes I would. Once. And they would wish I had left them to rot.
Depends on the specifics but in general no they'd have to spend the night in jail. If they were arrested for doing something that was morally right even if technically wrong or something like that then probably.

It would really depend on 1) what they'd done, 2) whether or not this was out of character, and 3) would keeping them in jail overnight have any benefit?
But if she had any culpability at all...you can believe that me bailing my kid out would not necessarily be much better than her staying in jail overnight. In fact, when DH and I got done with her, she might wish I'd left her there.
Yes, I would excersise all legal recourse no matter how stupid or volital the crime. I would make sure they had access to all legal representation I could afford. And they would know that they were completely responsibile for their actions, and defending themselves legally was not the same as not being wrong, stupid or at fault.
