When we updated our appliances in our old house, I guess I never really gave it much thought. My main concern was making sure the SS matched (I am not a fan of mix-matching appliance colors).
A friend of mine said it totally matters to him. The stove, fridge, dishwasher, and microwave (if built-in) all have to be the same brand or it bugs him. He said he won't mix Kenmore with GE, or LG with Frigidaire, etc.
No. Not at all. Certain manufacturers make some things better than others.
That said...you can often get a better deal if you buy a whole "suite" of appliances. So if I were buying a whole kitchen worth of stuff at once I might buy everything the same brand just to get the price break. But if say...my dishwasher went tits up and my fridge and stove were LG, I'd be looking at all brands for the best replacement, not just LG.
As long as the finish matches, I'm find with different brands. Everything in our kitchen is Whirlpool except the fridge. All the Whirlpool fridges I considered were too tall for the space, so I went with Samsung. It looks good, it matches everything else, and it's a good appliance.
No. My dream kitchen is one in which no appliance is visible except for the stove, so it wouldn't matter what any of the other appliances were. I'm saving up to be able to completely hide my fridge, DW and microwave behind cabinetry.
For me personally? I'd much prefer it but wouldn't die if they didn't. Looking good together would be more important. (IE, avoid a SS fridge and bisque stove).
lol, how is this:
not your dream kitchen!? It's fab!
I kid. I just thought your specificity was funny because it's exactly what we have until the stove finally dies and I can justify replacing it. (GO! GO! GO!)

Appliances stores always offer those package deals, but the truth is, if you were outfitting an entire kitchen, you could negotiate a similar discount on a combination of manufacturers as well. They just want a sale and will give you a good deal.

Good point. I am a chicken when it comes to negotiating so preset sales are my friend.

DH always says something like 'if we want to get these four items, will you give us a better price?' Sometimes it is a much better price, sometimes not so much, but it doesn't hurt to ask. The worst that could happen is for them to not give a discount.

yeah, when I say I'm a chicken I mean it. The thought of saying that gives me the sweats. I'd freeze in real life. It's approaching phobia levels.
But this is why I got married. So somebody ELSE could handle this kind of shit for me. So I'm still noting your advice for him to use when we eventually get around to to the kitchen.
I have an Amana fridge and cooktop/oven. I have a Kitchenaid dishwasher. I can't even tell you who made our microwave, it works, it looks good - that's all I care about.
My stove, fridge, W/D are all the same. They're just happened to be a sale at Sears when we were building so we ran with it for that reason alone. I wouldn't do it intentionally.
Our dishwasher was a builder extra at first and was a purely awful GE. I now have a whirlpool gold. IT's all white with basic handles, so it's fine.
Am I the only one that has no idea what brand my microwave is? I bought the $100.00 version at Target that'd do the job when our other one died.
Appliance brand is the last thing I look at. I want the best quality for my money and that's that. I mean my fridge will die before my stove, the dishwasher before the stove..they won't make that brand anymore..and I'm not reoutfitting an entire kitchen!
I have heard this before but I don't really care what the brand is as long as everything matches. I wouldn't want a stainless fridge and a white stove.
