i have a 6 yo. we've been to dw 3 x with him, we are addicts and love it. was thinking of a cruise instead, would love to go on the dream. when i asked my 6 yo though, he wants to go to dw. any thoughts? should we do a cruise instead? although if we went to dw, we would probably stay on the boardwalk, which we haven't done yet & seems like so much fun. i'm torn. I know, first world problems. Thanks!

There's no right answer to this one. Our next Disney vacation is a Christmas cruise on the Dream. My girls are 6 and 9, and have been to WDW 2 and 4 times each, respectively, and we've done DCL once (on the Wonder). At that time they were 4 and 6 cruising turned out to not be all that great for us...they didn't sleep well in the same room, and couldn't really handle staying up late so we missed a lot of the nighttime activities on board. They'll be 7 and 10 for this next cruise, are much more mature and need less sleep, and I'm anticipating a much better time!
If you ask them, they're torn. One day they'd rather do WDW, the next a cruise. Both are amazing experiences. I know I personally am glad to be doing a cruise rather than the parks this time. A good cruise is, IMO, a lot more relaxing than Disney. And I can't wait to experience the Dream, compared to the Wonder (which we loved).
I've never done a cruise but I do love WDW. Maybe you could do that, give your kids the whole Disney experience, and then branch out and do the cruise in a few years or so?
We've been to DW, we just did a cruise on the dream last month and let me tell you it was so much fun! Its really up to you though, do you like cruising? I really do so that probably had something to do with it. We just did a 4 night cruise and then spent 3 nights in fla. All my girls loved it, they got to see the characters more often as the lines weren't as long as they've been in DW. Have you checked out disboards site yet? They have a whole board on the cruiseline and they have trip reports, maybe look through those with your son and see if it gets him excited about it.
I think the cruise is a perfect way to mix Disney with something new since you have done DW several times. Its probably hard for your son to really get what the cruise is all about... but i promise he wont be disappointed!
If he's already been to DW a few times than I would do the dream. Is he into characters? We went on a Disney cruise this summer and it seemed like we had a lot more time with the characters than had we gone to the parks. I haven't been on the Dream, but it sounds amazing.
We did the Disney cruise this past summer when DD was 4. DD LOVED it. She had so much fun and there was so much to do. Getting to see all the characters and get her picture taken with them was so easy and no long lines.
